Carvalhal to Swansea
Football management must the only job where you can totally mess up and then get a promotion

Re: Swansea Appoint their New Manager

I was going to say that this appointment looks like they are preparing for life in the Championship and trying to get straight back up ........................ then I remembered he failed at that

All Hail King Huw :notworthy: A perfectly run club making sensible decisions ...................... NOT :laughing5: :laughing5:

Certainly an odd one, given the quality of the names being bandied around, i.e. Koeman, De Boer, Mourinho, Guardiola, Pulis, Giggs et al.

Sounds like all other avenues were exhausted, including the Ginger Monk route after it emerged that he had been 'tapped up' by the Swansea Desperados. The Americans certainly won't want any added expense (litigation) as they prep for the Premier League afterlife and Carlos Carvalhal is an easy option, as he is both unattached and seems prepared to see how it goes for the remainder of this season before looking at the future

However, there is always the thought that this may be another master stroke by Huw Jenkins. After all, it is surely no coincidence that Carlos Carvalhal has signed a contract only until the end of May, which is precisely the time that Zinadine Zidane will be looking for a fresh challenge at a club who believe themselves to be of the stature of Real Madrid and Barcelona; and where better than the Mumbles Mile and Swansealona?! ;) :laughing6: :laughing6:

People will write this off so easily and it's the reason Swansea stay up for me.

Because it's a regular theme they done a few times now, I just think because of where Swansea are right now and the situation with him being sacked by Wednesday so it looks like a poor appointment but we can't judge until he has had a few games.

Re: Swansea Appoint their New Manager

very strange appointment - seems to be one that arose out of a full 'recruitment process' as opposed to using common sense and footballing knowledge. from the sound of jenkins' comments it looks like they placed value on the interview, which is a bad sign IMO.

like aston villa after o'neill left, they are going through so many managers now that it is not the managers who are at all at fault, but instead its clear the club has structural issues that will persist whoever they hire. an exceptional manager can paper over the cracks over the short run (like warnock has done here). carvahal does not look like an exceptional manager.

Yes you are right it is a regular thing and at some point it will fail just like the policy of selling best players was OK at 1st but is failing this season, 3rd manager in 3 December's smacks of desperation in anyone's book

So not good enough for championship but will manage a Prem club

looking forward to reading planet swans soon .

Going down - cant wait !!!!

Wonder what his budget will be and who he`ll bring in - does he even know the English league well enough ?

Football must be the only big business where you can constantly fail and get sacked and then jump into another well paid position.
It’s a 50/50 for me if he does well or not. Football management is all about horses for courses - if it’s the right fit etc.
I’ll definitely not be laughing yet!

Sheffield Wednesday news: Carlos Carvalhal’s bonkers clown plan to save season

CARLOS CARVALHAL donned a CLOWN MASK in a bonkers bid to turn Sheffield Wednesday’s season around, it has been claimed.

By ALEX HARRIS

Daily Express

Sheffield Wednesday: Carlos Carvalhal wore clown mask to team meetings

Carvalhal hoped to lift the team's morale by wearing the fancy dress disguise to a meeting, according to The Sun newspaper.

The axed-Wednesday boss reportedly then told the players he was their new manager.

Carvalhal infamously screwed up and punched a £20 note during a press conference in September.

He was axed on Christmas Eve as a result of their disappointing start to the season.

The Portuguese, who had guided the Owls to successive play-off finishes, leaves the club in the bottom-half of the Championship table.

Hillsborough chiefs called time on Carvalhal’s two-and-a-half-year reign in the wake of Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough.

its a very strange appointment, but i agree so many of theier managerial appointments have come from left field and worked for them...on a side note it must be a real poke in the eye for Monk.

This is a post from an Owl's fan on Planet Swamp - it hasn't done much to cheer the Joma White Sox up. Ho Ho Ho! :santa:

" Wednesday fan in Peace.

This is the first time I've ever posted in another team's forum but you deserve to know what you've just done to yourselves.

Carlos Carvalhal is a fraud and I would have personally carried him to Swansea to get him out of our club. He's had more money in 2 years than every manager we've had for the last 20 years combined and achieved nothing. He has not been a success.

The squad that got to the pay off final was largely Stuart Gray's side and the spine of that team was, and still is, the players Gray signed on FREES or for very little money before Carlos and our new Chairman/Owner arrived: Kieran Westwood, Tom Lees, and Kieran Lee. He has still not addressed the deficiencies in the side that cost us the play off final almost 2 years later.

He's signed a load of Premier League crocks and has beens that aren't up to it and now we're stuck with FFP and can't offload them because no-one will pay their wages. He buys players that then never get near the squad: Urby Emmanuelson, Federico Venancio, Callum McManaman, Aiden McGeady & Almen Abdi to name but a few. He has literally pi55ed millions up the wall.

Not to mention the fact that he turned Jordan Rhodes, one of the most prolific goalscorers in Professional Football into a player completely devoid of confidence who couldn't hit a cows backside with a banjo.

His tactics are dire and all he wants to do is play possession football with no cutting edge. We had FOUR shots on goal for the month of November. FOUR. We had 19 on Boxing day as soon as he leaves the club. It isn't a coincidence. He's gone safety first since last season and it's been awful. He had completely lost the dressing room IMHO and refused to try anything different when it was clear things weren't working for us.

We looked like a team of strangers first game of the season away at Preston and those players had been together for over 2 seasons. He should have been sacked then. Pray that he doesn't bring all his Portuguese Cronies as well. My gaffer is a Huddersfield ST Holder and she's delighted because it means they only have to worry about 2 spots now.

Good Luck for the rest of the season, you're going to need it. I genuinely feel for you all".

They sell there best players don't re invest and expect the manager to keep them up.
The managers they have had or mostly second tier managers so wake up in it.

Now they appoint another un tried and tested and it seems Wednesday fans are delighted hes gone.
I think the jacks are gone to be fair with themselves to blame.

I can only assume this is a gamble that a portuguese manager can get the best out of Renato Sanchez and they wont need to spend to keep them up in january.
Big gamble and a cheap option.
They always seem to pull off the unexpected though with signings and managers.
