UPDATED: Reports: Cameron Jerome on City's List?

Thu Dec 28, 2017 11:39 am

Daily Mirror reports a few minutes ago that we are interested in signing Cameron Jerome. (I’m sure someone else knows how to link this in properly).

I cautiously think this might work, although a Norwich aren’t playing him much and I presume he is on high wages.

Cardiff City plotting January return for former striker Cameron Jerome - reports

Thursday 28th December 2017

Cardiff City are reportedly ready to bring striker Cameron Jerome back to South Wales.

According to The Mirror , boss Neil Warnock views the 31-year-old, who is currently on the books at Norwich City, as the ideal target man to strengthen their attacking options, particularly given that Danny Ward is currently set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines.

Jerome enjoyed a successful two-year spell with the Bluebirds between 2004 and 206, netting 24 goals in 73 appearances for the club.

A move back to the capital could subsequently prove popular with fans, but Cardiff are likely to face competition for the striker's signature, with Championship rivals Derby County also believed to be interested.

Despite being one of the highest earners at Carrow Road, Jerome has found game time under boss Daniel Farke difficult to come by this season and, as a result, the Canaries could be tempted to cash in when the January transfer window reopens.

Although star striker Kenneth Zohore is back in first team contention, attacking reinforcements are understood to be a priority for Warnock next month, particularly with the Bluebirds' promotion hopes being dented by back-to-back defeats to Bolton and Fulham over the busy festive period.

REPORTS: CAMERON JEROME A CITY TARGET?

Thu Dec 28, 2017 12:11 pm

Cardiff City interested in re-signing Norwich City striker Cameron Jerome – reports
By Jordan Jones

Cardiff City and Cameron Jerome could be set for a reunion as the Bluebirds are weighing up a move for the forward.

Jerome left South Wales for Birmingham City back in 2006, which saw the Bluebirds earn a £4m transfer fee from the sale of the striker.

The Daily Mirror say that Cardiff sees him as the ideal target man to help boost the club’s chances of promotion to the Premier League.

The 31-year-old wasn’t named as a substitute in Norwich’s 2-0 win over Birmingham City on Boxing Day, which could be an indication of the strikers time coming to an end at Carrow Road.

Cardiff will be on the lookout for another striker, having seen summer recruit Danny Ward ruled out for up to four-five months.

There is competition from a promotion rival, with Derby County also interested in bringing in Jerome, despite the form of striker Matej Vydra who has netted 14 times on 21 occasions.

Jerome has two goals to his name this season in 17 outings, netting against Swindon Town in the EFL Cup, as well as helping the Canaries to victory over Reading in a 2-1 win.

Speaking before tomorrow’s game with Preston North End, manager Neil Warnock said that he’d spent the whole of yesterday making phone calls to clubs regarding transfers. It now looks like one of those phone calls will have been to Norwich City over the availability of striker Cameron Jerome.

“I’ve made quite a number of calls yesterday, there are one or two opportunities on loan that have come up, I’m also talking about buying a particular player.”

Jerome has had somewhat of a good goal-scoring run against his former sides with Cardiff City being the victims on a number of occasions.

He failed to make an appearance during the Bluebirds’ 3-1 win over Norwich City earlier this month, as he watched on as an unused substitute.

On his previous visit to the Cardiff City Stadium though, Jerome scored the only goal and celebrated in front of the Cardiff City fans with their signature celebration ‘The Ayatollah’.

In his previous spell at the club, Jerome scored 27 times in 79 appearances. Since then, Jerome has played a majority of his career in the top flight of English football. Scoring 125 goals in 507 appearances between his time in the Championship and in the Premier League.

Jerome not for me, as I feel he's past his best but (as always) will trust in Neil Warnock's judgement :thumbright:

The Jack Rodwell 'link' appeals but I still think the manager will surprise us with his choice(s) :ayatollah:

I think he'd be a great signing, he plays in a very similar way to Zohore but slightly better in the air, so should fit right in. Can also play wide if needed so an ideal January signing.

I've spent the last few seasons hurling abuse at him though   He always seems to score against us and didn't handle the move away from us too well but all will be forgiven if he helps get us up :ayatollah: :bluebird:

In defence of his departure, I believe his dad was the bigger issue but he (Cameron) did join City fans in the away end at some of our games afterwards. As a player, he is strong but an inconsistent goal scorer..except when he plays us! LOL :laughing6:

Has experience in this division and would happily take this. :ayatollah:

THE RETURN FOR A FORMER CARDIFF STRIKER

Fri Dec 29, 2017 12:44 am

CAMERON JEROME is on the list for our manager Neil Warnock and it makes sense he has a bit of pace and skill, also he has go the strength like Zohore so maybe Jerome and Zohore could be Cardiff City's front partnership which would be epic :ayatollah:

Jerome is an handful on his day i'd love to see him and Zohore upfront with a strong influential midfielder behind them.

Do you think we'd suit 4-4-2? Think Warnock prefers to pack the midfield and I think our midfield is certainly not strong enough at the moment to cope with just two in there.

That’s assuming he doesn’t have someone lined up for midfield that CAN play the system. Right now though I agree we would struggle

I doubt Warnock would pair them together

Warnock has been our manager long enough to see we have a serious problem in midfield and should address that problem forthwith in January,of course the flipside to that is that Warnock doesn't recognise we have a problem in midfield
