The utterly bizarre statistic about white shirts that shows why Cardiff should be wary about playing Preston
By Ben James
Three of Cardiff's five Championship losses have come against teams playing in white
Wednesday 27th December 2017
There a number of reasons why Cardiff fans should be cautious ahead of Friday's clash with Preston.
The fact the Bluebirds have just lost back-to-back matches for only the third time in Neil Warnock's reign is one. That Preston thrashed Cardiff 3-0 at Deepdale earlier in the season is another.
The small matter of Preston wearing white is a reason that is unlikely to have crossed the minds of too many Cardiff fans. However, perhaps it should - because there seems to be something of a bizarre jinx when Warnock's men come up against teams who play in white this season.
Cardiff have steam-rollered most sides in front of them during 2017-18 - yet uncannily their record dips when it comes to the opposition playing in white!
At best the record is mixed. Eight games, four defeats, two draws and just two wins.
With Warnock having not lost three consecutive matches as Cardiff manager, those who believe in omens might feel this is the worst time to be playing another team in white!
Here is how Cardiff have fared against teams donning those dreaded white shirts this season.
Fulham 1-1 Cardiff City, September 9
The first match of the season against a team in white saw them draw 1-1 at Craven Cottage against Fulham.
And it took a last-gasp header from Danny Ward to rescue the Bluebirds as Cardiff lost their 100% start to the season after Ryan Sessegnon had opened the scoring for the hosts.
Preston 3-0 Cardiff City, September 12
Three days after, they faced Friday's opponents Preston away from home and lost their unbeaten record as the Lilywhites tore them apart.
Josh Harrop, Sean Maguire and Alan Brown got on the scoresheet to inflict as much misery as possible on Warnock's side.
Cardiff City 3-1 Leeds United, September 26
Their only win against a team whose home kit is white came next when they recorded a resounding 3-1 win to confirm their credentials as promotion contenders.
A brace from Kenneth Zohore and one from Junior Hoilett saw the Bluebirds leapfrog Leeds to the head of the Championship.
Cardiff City 0-0 Derby County, September 30
Cardiff followed up their win over Leeds with a goalless draw against Derby that was severely lacking in quality and intensity.
Despite being somewhat anti-climactic after the Leeds victory, the point ensured that Warnock's men stayed top of the Championship.
Cardiff City 0-0 Millwall, October 28
In their first game against a team whose change kit was white, Cardiff shared a goalless draw at the Cardiff City Stadium in a match where maximum points really should have been the target.
Cardiff City 1-0 Hull City, December 16
Cardiff's last win to date was hardly one to remember as Sol Bamba's second-half header secured the three points against strugglers Hull, who wore white instead of their usual orange and black stripes.
Bolton Wanderers 2-0 Cardiff City, December 23
Cardiff kicked off their festive fixtures with a disappointing defeat at Bolton which would have left several home fans wondering if Christmas had come early.
Goals from Gary Madine and Josh Vela consigned Cardiff to their first defeat since early November.
Cardiff City 2-4 Fulham, December 26
If the Bolton match was bad, then this Boxing Day disaster was downright appaling.
Cardiff were well off the pace for the majority of the match, and even though they threatened to make a comeback, never once looked better than the visitors.
The Bluebirds record against other colours:
Red: Played eight, won seven, lost one.
Blue: Played four, won one, drawn two, lost one.
Yellow: Played two, won two.

and on the topic of WHITE..
when we hit a slump in form in our 1959/60 promotion campaign our players asked could they wear the lucky white away kit ...from the previous season for home games.........did.and won promotion.

I for one am worried, i think White shirts apart and a very good point, we have been found out and the the 2nd half of the season is going to been very tough, i really hope i am wrong but we haven't been playing well at all lately even when we won games.

Ah, but you miss the point, i.e. the result is
EVERYTHING for many City fans. The method is immaterial!

A 4 nil hammering for PNE on Friday then that should sort out the White issue
