Neil Warnock: "Its a Premier League Player Next"

Cardiff City are looking to sign a Premier League loan star after Warnock talks with Vincent Tan

Tuesday 26th December 2017

Neil Warnock has admitted he’s looking at a lift from a Premier League loan star after transfer talks with Vincent Tan.

Tan was in attendance to watch Cardiff lose their unbeaten home record as they slipped to a 4-2 Boxing Day defeat to Fulham.

The result – the first back-to-back losses suffered by the Bluebirds this season – pushed Cardiff out of the top two and would have issued owner Tan a reminder of the need to boost the squad to maintain promotion aims.

But Warnock agreed with Tan’s assertion about not spending “silly money”, and admitted he is eyeing up loan signings – with one from the division above.

Following the loss, Warnock said: “Hopefully we can bring a couple of people in during January. I spoke to Vincent today and he’s very supportive and knows what I want to do.

“January is difficult to buy players but there are four or five players we’ve looked at for loan – and if we can one or two of them to supplement the current squad I’ll be delighted.”

Warnock is looking at one permanent addition having been hit by injuries in recent weeks and the blow of the news that both Aaron Gunnarsson and Danny Ward will be out for lengthy periods following operations.

Great news

Personally I want us to scrape 4 points in the next 2 games as ugly as we can

We then have 2 weeks off (barring the cup) this takes us to mid January with new players signed up and few back from injury with a fresh squad

These next 2 games could be crucial if we can get 4 points 51 points going into the new year would be fantastic

I think we urgently need one midfielder who can dictate play, an attacking midfielder, wing cover and a striker.

Potential CM signings:
George Saville (Millwall) - could be pricey but would be a great asset, little chance of a loan
Jack Colback (Newcastle) - well known as being available, competition with Leeds and Sunderland
Luke Freeman (QPR) - also can be pushed further forward

Potential attacking midfield/wing signings:
Sulley Kaikai (Crystal Palace) - would be a good loan signing, more of a winger
Billy Bodin (Bristol Rovers) - would cover both attacking midfield and wing and would be fairly cheap
Steven Naismith (Norwich) - permanent or loan, covers many positions

Potential striker options:
Tom Bradshaw (Barnsley) - fairly cheap again you'd expect
Marley Watkins (Norwich) - most likely on loan, would also be an option on the wing

We 've had a few players on loan from premiership clubs, zaha and ameobi being the latest, both shit players,so just because they are at a premiership club doesnt mean they ll be good,id rather a player from a lower league club, who wants to progress and not just here to get fit

Agreed, a lot of the time there is a reason why they've been sidelined. I also imagine Warnock would be reluctant to sign youngsters on loan too, which does make Premier League loans less likely, especially for the likes of Woodburn and Wilson.

A loan to buy would hopefully ensure a bit more effort. But tomlin aside warnock usually goes for hardworking players!

Hence why I think either Marley Watkins or Steven Naismith would be excellent signings. Both hard working, versatile players.
