"That's the championship for you"

Beaten up one week and outclassed the following week, I find it quite amusing reading all the different posts and how the negativity floods after a few defeats. If you thought we were going to just walk to promotion your living in cookoo land, these guys have been giving every last drop even with all the injuries and have done fantastic.

Some will point out how many would start ahead of today's starting 11, but it doesn't work like that. Without such an horrific amount of injuries players would have been rested and been fresher, more options from the bench.

But having said all that, you can be flying in this division on form and get beat twice in a week. That's the division, it's tough yet we sit joint second and hopefully a few defeats won't turn in to a really bad run.

Keep the faith, at the end of the season we will finish where we deserve to be.

I couldn't go today due to the dreaded man-flu but I spoke with a pal who said that Fulham were good on the counter and our midfield was not effective today. We sure miss Gunnarsson in his DM role and I wonder if that would have made a difference today?

So I was disappointed with the result as we usually have the stones to come back from 1-0 down. But I'm not too bothered as NW has performed miracles given the position we were in before he joined. All teams pushing for a top six place have suffered a few unexpected losses and we were always going to get beaten at home at some point.

I do think that given the position we are in and that most expected at best a mid-table finish, VT and the board need to give NW exactly what he says he needs to kick-on which I'm sure they will. Its a shame we've had injuries to key players which I think has had an effect on our momentum.

Right, back to the Lemsip.

Leeds went on a terrible run, shef Utd a bad spell, its hurting us now but that's the championship for you. The injuries will happen but not to this level. I have no doubt be changes Friday and a fired up city. Get well soon

Us (Leeds) had our annual Xmas blip in November and everyone thought our season was over (not). We do got a good squad with quality reserves waiting to jump in and take their chance, which is different to the old Leeds. Hang in there, lads.

Paul, your mate was pretty bang on the money in his assessment, as Fulham were able to counter attack pretty much at will because we lacked two players, ie. Morrison and Gunnarsson :thumbright:

Despite their best efforts (Ralls was very good again) our midfield was screaming out for a player who could close the gaps and give the back four some respite

A bad day at the office but not the end of the world and Neil Warnock will have learned a few things today, as will have Vincent Tan if he thought we already had it cracked this season. We certainly haven't but we're still in there and we can now bring in a couple of new faces to freshen up the squad in the right places

Hope you feel better for Friday, Paul :thumbright: :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

I've never seen someone so desperate to be proved right about a player we 'should' have signed. It's weird.

There's no solid proof that your right or wrong and never will be.

You are right it’s merely my opinion.

I actually went yesterday so am now allowed an opinion. We just aren’t solid in the middle. We miss Gunnarrson so much. Ralls is tidy and capable of brilliance yet needs to be further forward to impact play. Not sure what Bryson does. He doesn’t look a great passer. Isn’t a great tackler. I think he can (and has) got into good positions but we have to be firmly on front foot or solid behind him to do that. Sadly we were neither yesterday.

No, mate. It's no secret I'm as much anti-Ledley returning as you are pro-Ledley returning and we'll continue to differ on that one. I'll leave the way (IMHO) he left 'his' club in the lurch when he left for the riches of the (one-team Scottish) Premier League but my assessment is that he'll bring little to the table that Gunnarsson won't bring when he is fit. You overrate him; particularly with his injury record that is the last thing we need at this club ;)

Here are his 'stats' since arriving at Derby County (not too bad to date but still only 10th best at his own club):

Joe Ledley's Profile

Name: Joe Ledley
Current Team: Derby
Shirt Number: 36
Positions: Midfielder (Centre, Left)
Age: 30 years old (23-01-1987)
Height: 183cm Weight: 73kg
Nationality: Wales

Tournament: Championship
Appearances: 15
Minutes: 1307
Goals: 1

Yellow Cards: 1
Red Cards: 0
SpG: 0.4
PS%: 81.6
Aerials Won: 0.7
MotM: 0
Rating (Avg): 6.85
*SpG: Shots per game
PS%: Pass success rate)

Playing Positions: DMC (Defensive Midfielder)

Joe Ledley Characteristics
+ Strengths - Defensive contribution is very Strong
- Weaknesses - Tackling is weak

Joe Ledley's Style of Play
Likes to play short passes
Does not dive into tackles

And for clarity, here are the 'stats' for Aron Gunnarsson (6th in his team's ratings):

Aron Gunnarsson's Profile

Name: Aron Gunnarsson
Current Team: Cardiff City
Shirt Number: 17
Positions: Midfielder (Centre)
Age: 28 years old (22-04-1989)
Height: 178cm Weight: 70kg
Nationality: Iceland

Tournament: Championship
Appearances: 12
Minutes: 927
Goals: 0
Assists: 1
Yellow Cards: 2
Red Cards: 0
SpG: 0.9
PS%: 68.0
Aerials Won: 1.3
MotM: 1
Rating (Avg): 7.16
*SpG: Shots per game

Playing Positions: DMC (Defensive Midfielder)

Aron Gunnarsson Characteristics
+ Strengths
Ball interception
Concentration
Blocking the ball

- Weaknesses

Tackling is weak

Aron Gunnarsson's Style of Play

I'm not sure what either player is currently earning this season but I'm confident any monies spent adding Joe Ledley to our wage bill at this time would be far better spent elsewhere :thumbright: :ayatollah:

I watched the highlights back and you can only pick up a few things but what I did see was players not bing picked up defensively and also space given to attack which is unusual. We've seen some incredible performances from this squad so we know what their capable of so if i can be excused for using a football cliche, it was just a bad day at the office. And I'm still sick as a parrot which is another one! :bluebird:

I'm not sure what either player is currently earning this season but I'm confident any monies spent adding Joe Ledley to our wage bill at this time would be far better spent elsewhere :thumbright: :ayatollah:

Excellent post.

My point is that we do not have back up to Gunnarrson. He has missed a fair few games this season already.

What we would do for a midfielder to give us a 6.85 rating now.

Cheers. PNE will be another tough one and I think your right that a disappointed squad will be wanting to prove a point after our first home loss.
