Worst thing is we saw him take us apart in a friendly away at Shrewsbury a few seasons back. We could have got him for a couple of hundred grand then.

I remember it well. Pre-season friendly at the Meadow. He completely dominated our midfield which included more seasoned campaigners like Whittingham et al. His passing was effortless and everything Shrewsbury did came through him. I believe Chelsea were interested in him but he went to Brentford. I think he would be a great acquisition for us but would probably cost too much.

We've played Brentford 4 times now and in every game, he's run the show for them.

He may possibly be a Villa fan which inspires him to raise his game against us but if that is his usual level, I'm amazed Brentford have kept hold of him.
