Garry Monk was sacked by Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson because of concerns about the club's style of play, according to Sky sources.

Monk had just returned home from Saturday's 2-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday when he received a call from Gibson to tell him he had lost his job.

Sky Sports News understands he held a meeting with the club hierarchy in midweek to discuss January transfer targets and was therefore shocked to receive the call from Gibson.

But SSN understands Gibson was not confident Monk would lead the club back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, leading him to terminate the 38-year-old's contract.

For me, this makes perfect sense. It is rare to sack a manager after winning a game, especially as they then had 2 home games to come. There had to be another reason.

Anyone with concerns about a teams style of play would not want to be appointing Pulis as manager.

Personally, I can't see Pulis bridging the gap this season (that's put the kiss of death on it). Whilst he does get teams grinding out results and making them difficult to beat, I envisage Boro drawing too many games under him.

That is what I am hearing.

Clubs wont come out with that as a reason though.

ive read that a few places...but the Boro statement was the standard we would like to thank Garry for his hard work and dedication and wish him all the best for the future.
surely if the Swansea rumour was true the statement would reflect that..breach of contract etc..

That makes far more sense than sacking him for winning a tough game ugly!

Nothing Monk does would surprise me and explains why the Swansea reject is so high up in the betting!

Swansea must have just found out he is related to Ron Weasley and hoping he can bring some magic to the Hogwart's Stadium with him but I fear he'll need to be Harry Ap Potter himself to do that!
