Is this the real reason why Warnock picked Greg Halford?

And don't forget many disagreed with Neil Warnock starting Greg Halford and for many Halford turned out man of the match at Bolton :thumbright: :bluebird:

Neil Warnock said in his post-match press conference that his decision to give Greg Halford his first league start of the season was motivated by an attempt to match Bolton's physicality, and in a way he was right.

It was a bruising encounter at the Macron Stadium, with a total of seven yellow cards being shown by referee Darren Bond.

Halford coped well sitting in front of the Cardiff back four, making several tidy defensive contributions on what was otherwise a disappointing day for the Bluebirds.

Interestingly, Halford was also on long throw duty, launching several balls into the Bolton box as the visitors searched for a breakthrough.

The long throw has proved a potent weapon in the past for Cardiff, and there are no shortage of players capable of delivering it.

Sean Morrison, Aron Gunnarsson and Callum Paterson have all proved they are capable of taking on such duties.

With the first of those two names on treatment table, and Paterson perhaps not offering the same level of physicality as Halford, one cannot help but wonder if it played a part in Warnock's decision in giving the 33-year-old the nod.

Had it really proved a potent weapon?... Because I can recall hundreds of times we've used it and I can't recall one single time we've scored from i.

The long throw went ok when we where in the prem bit besides that it hasn't done as much good.

I think we scored one earlier this season with it, but frankly without Morrison in the side it's a toothless weapon as he's the only one who can consistently win headers in the opposition box.

In fact at Bolton it was more a hindrance to us as a few times they broke with us having a lot of players committed in their box

Yeh and we've been caught on the break from it many times in the past. I'm not a fan personally I think we're better off keeping possession most of the time and using it now and then

Warnock got it wrong against bolton imo. Should have set up to attack bolton not defend. Tomlin instead of halford

Whatever the reason was that Warnock picked Halford it didn't work out.

We were comprehensively outfought and bullied in midfield by Pratley and Henry. It could be argued that we weren't helped by a weak referee who allowed them to get away with some very robust challenges but Halford did little as far as I saw and as mentioned above, we should be looking to impose ourselves on teams in the bottom three, not worrying about how physical they are going to be!

Long throws are an absolute waste of time - why don't they mix it up every now and again? No, it's just thrown to a man standing stationary on the edge of the six yard box who is covered by two defenders who clear easily.

When Bristol City scored against us from a long throw their player made a run into the box and attacked the ball - something that we never do on a long throw. We're way too predictable with our throw-ins.

He picked him because he doesn’t trust Tomlin and because we have loads of injuries and tired players ???

Obvious isn’t it ????
