Neil Warnock has expressed his desire to bring in up to six new players with the January transfer window around the corner.
The Bluebirds have been flying of late and since the international break, Warnock’s side have gone unbeaten in six games, and they beat Nigel Adkins Hull City 1-0 last time out.
However, the Bluebirds have gone through somewhat of an injury crisis, with Warnock confirming that Danny Ward is out for a further three months and combative midfielder Aron Gunnarsson set to be out of action for six months.
And the Bluebirds manager is thought to be interested in bringing in up to five or six new players when the transfer window re-opens in January.
“I’ve spoken to the owners and I feel we’re going to sign five or six players between 20 and 23 who are capable of stepping up into the squad.
We’ll give them the opportunity to play with the 23s, train with us and supplement our squad. We want better quality from the squad.
We are looking at trying to steady the club because it’s fair to say that when I came, I was criticised for letting some players go, but I don’t see any of them going on to get into better clubs.”Warnock also affirmed that he wouldn’t be going down the route of spending stupid money during the January transfer window, but if a player did become available that he was interested in signing, then he would try to buy them.
“Unless you pay silly money and try to buy somebody, teams will try to keep the players until the end of the window when you’ll loan people out, that’s how I think it works.
If there was a player I thought was good value for money, I’d try and buy him. I’m not looking down that line, but the agents ring you all the time with names and if a name came up that was interesting, I would consider it.
I know that with Mehmet, if I was interested in someone then I would speak to Mehmet and Vincent about it.
They know I won’t ask for £15-20 million and it is about them trusting me to supplement what we’ve got here,” added Warnock.
With the Bluebirds travelling to Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, Warnock believes it will be a tricky task in-spite of their current league position, with the Trotters 23rd in the Championship table.
“I think all my players know that this will be as hard as playing Wolves. They won’t want to lose twice at home on trot. We know what it will be like, they have good players and they have a good manager in Phil.
We have to stand up and be counted first of all. The games in which we’ve been beaten, it’s because we’ve started slow and we have to make sure we start on the front foot.”
Rhys Healey returned to the substitutes bench in the game against Hull City, and with the Bluebirds currently enduring a mini injury crisis, they will be in no rush to loan out the former Connah’s Quay Nomads youth product.
“I’ve had four clubs after Rhys already but I don’t think he’s in a rush and we have to look after ourselves in the second-half of the season and we’ll have to think twice about loaning him.
Tyrone (Dufus) has been playing with Hereford and I like him but its great for him to play in a man’s league and it’s a good club to get some games.
We’re having more training games now with me refereeing and I think that’s better than the ‘charity match’ like the under-23s is,” confirmed Warnock.
