Cardiff City leading race to sign Hamilton Academical captain Mikey DevlinBy Jordan Jones Saturday 23rd December 2017
Cardiff City are ahead of two Championship clubs in a battle for the signature of Hamilton Academical defender Mikey Devlin.
Devlin who is out of contract in the summer could become Neil Warnock’s first bit of transfer business in the winter window as he looks to add depth to his squad.
According to TEAMtalk, Cardiff City are ahead of Ipswich Town and Preston North End in their pursuit of the 24-year-old.
Devlin has yet to play for the Accies this season after sustaining a season-ending injury back in March of last season but is approaching full fitness again.
Due to the injury, the defender has yet to make an appearance for his club this season, but Neil Warnock is willing to look past that and has pushed for the signing.
It’s believed that Hamilton will not stand in the way of the departure of their defender as he looks to make a move South of the border. However, they may expect a fee having raised Devlin through their youth system.
If Devlin were to sign, he would become the second signing from the Scottish Premier League this season, following the success of Bosman transfer Callum Paterson who has also recently recovered from a long-term injury.
Bluebirds skipper Sean Morrison is currently out with injury and is likely to miss the festive period but the addition of Devlin, could keep centre backs Bruno Ecuele Manga and Sol Bamba on their toes.
