RANGERS have agreed a three and a half year contract with Declan John to make his loan deal permanent.

Friday 22nd December 2017

The 22-year-old jumped at the chance to head to Ibrox on loan in the summer as he looked for regular first team football.

The full back has played 14 times since arriving and scored two goals against Hamilton in only his third match for the Light Blues.

In the absence of regular skipper Lee Wallace, John has become a fixture in the side at left back.

The former Cardiff City defender is a Welsh international with two caps for the senior side, and will now remain at Ibrox until the summer of 2021.

Declan John signs permanent Rangers deal

Loan switch becomes permanent for left-back...

Friday 22nd December 2017

Cardiff City FC can confirm that a deal has been agreed for Declan John to join Glasgow Rangers on a permanent basis.

The defender signed with the Scottish Premiership side on an initial loan deal during the summer transfer window.

We’d like to thank Declan for his contribution and wish him the best for the future.

Great move for him..
I thought he played a few decent games in the Premier League for us and it seemed a matter of time before he became a permanent fixture.
Saw him play for Wales when he came on as sub in Amsterdam and was up against Arjen Robben - looked as good as anyone against him.
I've always wondered what his best position may be, but he will have a good time at Rangers I'm sure.

Threatened to break into our first team many times but was never really good enough.

Hope it works out at Rangers, their fans seem to like him since his loan move there.

Good luck to him :thumbright:

I work with a lad who lives in Glasgow and I had a meeting with him last week. He said he's brilliant and hasn't seen a fullback like him for years at rangers :thumbright:

Always thought he was good enough for us but im not a football manager.
Hate seeing local welsh lads leave the club always thought the more we have the better they'd give that bit extra.
Anyway shame to him him go hope he does well up there and for Wales in the future.

I agree with this, Declan couldn’t stop a pig in a passage, he’s fine going forward but loads of balls come in from his flank. Rangers now have 4 fullbacks on their books who can’t defend, I think playing further up the field would benefit both club and player. Or he learns and defends better.
