Stephen, Pat (Chelsea) I first met when I was 16years old and we became very good friends, I brought him to watch away at Peterborough in the old 4th Division. He was the same age as me and sadly died three years ago.
I went to his funeral, lads came from all over the World and Millwall, Chelsea, Spurs, West Ham were all together at his funeral :thumbright: :thumbright:

For me " Beyond The Hatred " was a very honest written book by the Authors, with some excellent and interesting stories about their life's and how they got involved in the English hooligan culture. Its very rare you find so much truth nowadays in books and this one had it spot on. Plus it was great to read a chapter on Fat Pat Chelsea RIP from so many names from the past.

I highly reccomend this book and worth reading.

Annis

I just had a glance on Amazon about this book. It appears to have had just three reviews so far (one of them is yours). I suspect the other two are done by the authors ("Gilly Black " gives himself an "excellent" review rating on another book review site) as one is anonymous and one is under the name "Francis Drake". A bit of false publicity by the authors in an attempt to boost sales?

Talking of false names , I see that Gilly Black and Tosh McIntosh are in fact two Bulgarians whose real names are Philip Bakyov and Todor Stoychov. Any idea why they use the assumed names?

I have no idea whether the book is any good at all - in my opinion most if not all of a similar genre that I have read are badly written , but "each to their own". I might wait until it hits the bargain bin in The Works to buy one and read it in order to be fair in any assessment of this one.

Keith, the book has not long ago come out.

Its not just about violence, its beyond that, its about friendships and and about the cultures in their country as well as ours.
Its about how they came to the UK and made friends and showing how British violence at football is nothing like what it is in their Country.

They both now live in London, they seem very decent blokes and both work and settled down with families :thumbright: :thumbright:

I have never met them, they contacted me and asked me to write about Pat Dolan RIP, which I did.
Then when I went back to Cardiff this month, they posted me a copy of the book :thumbright:

Not quite true Annis. If I agree with you on something , I say so. If I don`t , I also say so.

I don`t think I am being negative about the book. If and when I read it I will give an honest opinion about whether or not it is any good.

What I was pointing out was a couple of strange issues , being that the authors of the book have , for unexplained reasons , chosen not to use their own names , but given themselves English sounding ones instead. Why? Also , they seem to be giving top rated reviews themselves of their own book, which does smell of a bit of cynical self publicity .

I haven`t enjoyed any of the "hooligan type" books I have read because, as I say , I think they are badly written . However , many others may well have , quite rightly , a totally different view. It`s a free world.

Have a good Christmas and New Year , you and your family. Are you doing a traditional British type one , or more of a Spanish one. One of my sisters has lived in Spain for nearly 20 years now , but still tends to mix with the British ex-pats more than the locals around Christmas time.
