Breaking News - Swansea have sacked Paul Clement .

BBC

Swansea City have sacked manager Paul Clement with the club bottom of the Premier League, having won just once in 10 matches.

Clement, 45, took charge in January with Swansea in the relegation zone and guided them to a 15th-place finish.

Chairman Huw Jenkins said that changing the manager halfway through a season "was the last thing we wanted to do".

He said: "We felt we couldn't leave it any longer and needed to make a change to give the best chance of an uplift."

Tony Pulis expected to take over.

Feel sorry for Clement, it’s the club which is the problem there.

Still think they’ll go down :thumbright:

Pulis won't help them as he's defensive minded! but it's midfield and attack especially that they are bad in fact they are bottom of stats for any attacking play. Will pulis want that when in line for Wales job?

Paul Clement has been sacked as Swansea manager following a dismal start to the season that has seen the club collect just three wins and 12 points in their opening 18 matches in the Premier League, to leave them sitting rock bottom of the table.

Pulis odds-on favourite before Clement was sacked, but may be a lot of guess work?

Also talk of Pulis going back to Stoke if they sack Hughes.

Looks like standard operating policy from jenkins. Seem to recall he sacked Laudrup before our game down there in the Prem to give them the maximum bounce with Gary Spunk. Aren't they paying Palace next?

It’s been a bad season for many clubs so far and many have chosen to get rid while they can and now another Premier League manager has been sacked.

That manager is Swansea’s Paul Clement who has overseen the clubs slump to bottom of the Premier League in recent weeks.

Crystal Palace looked to be down and out but they have since seen a small revival under Roy Hodgson.

That has left the Welsh side bottom of the table after their latest defeat at Everton on Monday evening.

With that in mind and many sides who have sacked their managers finding success this season, the Swansea hierarchy has moved to do the same.

Whether the same outcome will come for them is yet to be seen but they are certainly in a dire situation right now.

Having lost Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fernando Llorente, possibly the two players that kept them up last year, it was always going to be a big ask.

The club replaced them with Wilfred Bony and Roque Mesa but they have been unable to find the form Sigurdsson and Llorente did.

Now, the search for the next Swansea manager begins as they look to stay in the Premier League by the skin of their teeth yet again.

There have already been early thoughts of Tony Pulis, which could tick the survival specialist box.

Allan, I said this earlier. Swansea are already 'okay' at the things Swansea are current best at, i.e. keeping the goals against down to a reasonable level for their position :thumbright:

As for clement? I actually feel sorry for him but (as always) the manager is the easy target and the Board will never look at themselves even after the run of managers (and results) they've had

Gary Monk looking for a new job soon, if Tony Pulis doesn't want to stain his record of no relegations :ayatollah:

Clement goes in Swansea's 4th managerial firing in 2 years
By ROB HARRIS AP Global Soccer Writer Dec 20, 2017

Swansea fired its fourth manager in around two years on Wednesday, dismissing Paul Clement just before the manager completed a year in charge of the Premier League club.

Clement's departure comes with the South Wales team bottom of the standings, approaching the midway point of the season.

"To change the manager, especially at only the halfway point of the season, is the last thing we wanted to do as a club," club chairman Huw Jenkins said in a statement.

"But we felt we couldn't leave it any longer and needed to make a change to give us the best chance of an uplift and a turnaround in fortunes with the club bottom of the Premier League."

The club, which is owned by American investors Stephen Kaplan and Jason Levien, promised an update on Clement's successor by Thursday.
Swansea's spell of instability began with Garry Monk being dismissed in December 2015. Francesco Guidolin lasted less than 10 months in the dugout and the tenure of Bob Bradley — the Premier League's first American coach — was even shorter at 85 days.

Swansea was in the relegation zone when the 45-year-old Clement left his role as assistant coach at Bayern Munich to succeed Bradley in early January. The Englishman propelled the club to safety, finishing 15th in the 20-team standings.
But Swansea has lost all but two of its last 10 league games, with the latest being a 3-1 collapse at Everton on Monday. It left Swansea with 12 points from 18 games, four points from safety, and marked the end for Clement.

"What he achieved in the second half of last season to keep us in the top flight was a tremendous feat," Jenkins said.

"I have had an excellent working relationship with Paul and we are all, including the owners, surprised and disappointed it hasn't worked out this season."

It is another setback for Clement's hopes of carving out a career as a manager, lasting only eight months as Derby manager across 2015 and 2016. But he has prospered as an assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, Bayern, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

Live and learn about what? I said I believe Clement is a good manager and not to blame for how they’re doing. It’s how their club is run. He did a good job to keep them up last season and you don’t become a bad manager overnight. I stand by that.

He's not a manager though he's had one 8mnth spell and failed did wonderful to keep swans up but look at the results last season and it was only last 6 games that he managed to get the results needed out of around 18 games, but it took hulls poor end to make it possible as well, Clement is a no 2 a good one but a no2 none the less that's where he's made his reputation.

I disagree, I think at a better run club he would do well. He’ll probably have to drop back down to the Championship now.

It looked certain they’d go down last season and he saved them. At Derby, he was sacked because of the style of play - they were doing well at the time and their owner thought Clement was more interested in results over performance.

Unlucky to lose his job at Derby.

It depends what you consider failure.

Unlucky to lose his job at Derby after the owner saying Clement was more worried about results than performances. They were doing well at the time.

At Swansea, he saved them from a desperate situation last season. This season has been a struggle but, by all accounts, the club didn’t give him the money to replace Sigurdsson. According to reports, the club replaced Llorente for him when re-signing Bony but he wasn’t overly keen on signing him.

I can see him doing a job for someone in the Championship and be back in the Premier League soon.

Swansea eye former Man Utd boss Louis van Gaal to replace sacked Paul Clement
SWANSEA are eyeing former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal as their next manager
By Harry Howes / Published 20th December 2017

The Welsh side sacked Paul Clement as boss on Wednesday night after a horrendous run of form.

The Swans have lost eight of their last ten Premier League games and find themselves bottom of the table, four points off safety.

The club’s hierarchy want to bring in somebody with experience of top-flight English football.

Slaven Bilic and Ronald Koeman are also possibilities, although both were sacked earlier this season and are thought to be keen for a break from management.

According to The Daily Mirror, Swansea will try to convince Louis van Gaal to come in and steer them towards safety.

The Dutchman hinted at a return to the Premier League at the weekend.

He said: “I said I will probably not manage a club any more.

“I would make one exception. If a big English club comes for me, I would do it. Because then I can get the chance to get one over Manchester United.

As much as it hurts me to say,the JB's won't go down, they are hardly cut adrift and only need a couple of wins from the teams around them and they'll be safe.
They have the players to keep them up but Clem the Jem couldn't get a tune out of them, they'll beat Palace saturday and finish 4th bottom come the end of the season

Maybe your right but at end day can only go by his cv and that indicates nothing as a manager other than saving them from relegation, but as i said record only average in games he had in charge did well at start then bad patch with good last 6 games at end, but if hull had better ending swans would have been relegated. Anyway his cv is the inducater of how good he is and that indicates he's a no 2 so far. :old:
Ps I think they'll still go down
