Outspoken radio host Jason Cundy has branded Swansea City the 'turd' of the Premier League following Monday night's 3-1 defeat at Everton.

The former Chelsea and Spurs defender has previous with Welsh football famously calling Chris Coleman's Dragons 'a Dog and Duck pub team' during their exploits in Euro 2016 and re-iterating his claims when they failed to make it through the World Cup 2018 qualifiers.

Now his attack on Premier League basement boys Swansea is bound to infuriate fans of the Liberty Stadium club, who find themselves two points adrift at the bottom of the top flight table and four from safety following their defeat at Goodison Park.

Speaking on Monday night's The Sports Bar programme on talkSPORT , the show he co-hosts with Andy Goldstein, Cundy was asked what next for Swansea City and should they sack current boss Paul Clement.

"I think the Swansea situation is that they're the architects of their own downfall," said Cundy.

"This goes back to Garry Monk, it goes back to selling Jack Cork, it goes back to selling (Fernando) Llorente and the man who scored against them tonight (Gylfi) Sigurdsson.

"They're three really good Premier League players who've done a good job for Swansea.

"Paul Clement came in and kept them up last season and they've not really built and prepared themselves for this season or the ones two or three before that.

"This has been a steady decline and at the moment it's going to be two other teams with Swansea because I just can't see them salvaging it at the moment."

And on the question of whether Swansea should go down the same route as fellow strugglers West Ham, Crystal Palace, Everton and West Brom in sacking their manager, Cundy launched his scathing attack.

He added: "The question is who comes in, what are they going to do differently?

"He's only got what he's got - you can't polish a turd, so to speak."

And when asked by Goldstein to expand, asking: "So what you're saying is that Swansea are a turd?", Cundy added: "That's exactly right. They are.

"I like (Mike) Van Der Hoorn and (Alfie) Mawson, other than that there's not much there.

"That team is probably Championship.

"They've not spent and replaced the players they've sold. Their decision making since the new owners have come in has been poor.

"They brought in Bob Bradley and (Francesco) Guidolin as managers and these have been poor decisions.

"You go back to the decisions Huw Jenkins was making when he had total control of that football club and they were good decisions.

"They brought in good managers and they managed to survive and become a steady Premier League team. Now they're going down."

Stating the obvious, the whole club and fans are shit, and have talked shit for years !!!

Did they have a choice though in selling those players? Especially Gylfi?

A club like Swansea can't hold onto players of Gylfis quality when in their prime and when bigger teams come looking.

Of course the mistake that Swansea made is the takeover to absolute idiots.

But on the playing side they also abandoned playing decent football some time back and abandoned a sensible transfer policy.

They got greedy when selling Gylfi and holding out for the extra few million cost them about a month in transfer activity where they should have been lining up a replacement for him. The 4 million loan fee for Sanchez is a bizarre and naive piece of business. Bony wasn't fit and hasn't played consistently well for some time.

So I am happy to see them being the 'turd' of the league but I don't think it is simply down to selling Cork and Gylfi.

They have sold decent players before and come through. There is a bigger cancer at the club.

I am sure if asked Cundy would have some charming words to say about Cardiff City.

Average footballer, poor pundit and a loudmouth.

That's what he is paid to do. I like the Sports Bar Cundy and Goldstein are a great listen but you do wonder sometimes if they like each other

TalkSport has a target audience which is not the small Welsh footballing community, it is London/England and to a lesser extent Manchester centric and their views will reflect that.

That said in fairness to Goldstein he was very vocal over our rebrand and directly laid the blame at Vincent Tan's door.

I think Jason Cundy may find himself in a bit of trouble over that remark. I can see a possible court case on the horizon as I think that isa pretty disgusting comparison to make, and I imagine turds in every sewer around the country are going to be absolutely tamping.

Can’t argue with Cundy on this subject, you can’t polish a turd, and thats about right for the Jacks at the moment. However when Cundy labbled the Welsh national team as no more than a pub team like the dog and duck off international football, I thought that was a bit strong. He must love the Welsh

He certainly is (a loud mouth) and can be very 'hit-and-miss' with his comments when on air but it's hard to disagree with the basics of what he said, i.e. that Swansea are currently reaping what they have sewn and have a squad that are ready for Championship football and not Premier League

Lessons here for Cardiff City FC? Too right there are, but the difference is that our club finally appear to have the people at the top (manager in particular) who will guide us in the right direction and it's time for everyone to appreciate that rather than taking every opportunist to 'take a swipe' at the past at every opportunity

My pal who regularly attends Cardiff games is also a Citeh fan, moved down here a few years back, anyway I accompanied him to the Swansea away game last week and tbh they were shocking, Citeh never had to get out of 2/3 gear- for 34 minutes they played 7 at the back, 2 on the Wing and the god awful Bony through the middle I’ve never seen a more negative side! Not only that but their support was rubbish and the stadium is still a soulless rugby ground.

Happy to see them relegated almost makes me want to not get promoted so we can smash them in the Derby

Would never happen with some at our club, would it?

Cundy probably hadn't the wit to say "you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear" but if he had then I doubt anyone would have kicked up such a fuss. He's on the right track though.
