Report: West Ham talks at stalemate with Cardiff City backing away from £15m Diafra Sakho deal

According to the Daily Mail, talks between West Ham United and Cardiff City over a move for Diafra Sakho have hit a stalemate.

After hitting 12 goals in 26 games in his first season with West Ham following a 2014 move from Metz, Sakho was emerging as a major goalscorer in the Premier League – but he hasn't managed to build on that.

The Senegal international has struggled with injuries in recent years, and couldn't force himself back into Slaven Bilic's immediate plans, though he remains at the London Stadium after a number of potential exits fell through.

Despite scoring for West Ham in the 3-0 win over Stoke City on Saturday afternoon, Sakho continues to be linked with a move away from the club, with reports now offering an update on Cardiff City's pursuit.

The Daily Mail report that Sakho wants to leave West Ham in January, but talks with Cardiff have hit a stalemate over the terms involved for the striker to make a shock move to the Championship.

It's claimed that West Ham wanted a huge £15million fee to sell Sakho, whereas Cardiff wanted a loan deal with a view to purchasing the 27-year-old if promoted – but the £15million fee is too rich for Neil Warnock's side.

That leaves Sakho in limbo, as whilst he allegedly wants to leave West Ham, David Moyes is still giving him first-team opportunities, even if only as a substitute.

The Hammers may subsequently stick to their asking price for Sakho, with yet another transfer saga over the striker seemingly imminent.

Would be a good signing and the good quality competition for zohore we need

We won’t be paying 15 million and I’m sure his wages would be way too high for us

I don’t think it was ever on.

my first thoughts were the same..but who knows..he wants away ,came from the french 2nd division so maybe not on quite the wages youd imagine and isnt setting the world on fire.
add to that Moyes would probably like some players in january so therefore some will leave and Spam probably dont want to sell him to a relegation rival...hey presto...maybe

There is a lot of sense us showing interest in this guy.

We find ourselves knocking on the Premier door again not comfortable with our striking force. We do not want an Acorn episode again if the premier door opens for us. So this story for me is quite feasible,

The main think here is that it shows the club is looking forward. Put it down to lessons learnt and it is the most difficult lesson in football to get right.

I would not say this is a no go as all the signs are there to make this have legs. A striker who has history scoring in the premier finds himself out of favour with his contract coming to an end. I would imagine he will have a few options so would he be interested in a club just getting promoted that looks like it has sorted it crap out on the pitch? Why not?

The thing I take from this is we're actually in there talking, says alot about the clubs ambition. :bluescarf:

You make a good point about wages. A quick google search suggests he’s on £20,000 a week which is not an awful lot for a West Ham player. Obviously not 100% reliable, but gives us an idea.

Would be a good signing, but I don’t believe it.

Don't and wont spend this sort of money. Imagine spending this amount on him and he turns out to be a flop. I am sure NW will find the right striker over Christmas. He probably has him already lined up but cant disclose at this time.

That’s the problem with the inflated costs, there is no way Sakho is a £15m player! I’ve seen a bit of him and he drifts in and out of games, he’s not an out an out forward who’ll get you 15+ goals a season, for me it would be a waste. A loan deal would be better and if he proves me wrong then he proves me wrong but at £15m there’s no chance even if he does prove me wrong!

City have done most of their business 'behind closed doors' for some years now and Neil Warnock has surprised us more than once with some very astute and cost-friendly signings. I fully expect that to continue, although I don't expect to see more than one or two coming through the entrance door this January with probably the same amount going out the exit :thumbright:

West Ham fans don't rate him they'd rip our hands off for 15million.

Think it's all nonsense and not happening.

We haven't got £5mill never mind £15mill

Certainly won't be paying that money and wouldn't condone it for that player either. Had a good first season but has been pretty anonymous since and isn't proven to score goals in the Championship.

Annis,

I think there is potential for a loan until the end of the season with the option to take him ?

Probably a no goer but this would suit all involved in the deal IMO. :bluescarf:

I would be amazed if this is even slightly true. Why would he come here when there is no guarantee of promotion and the guys contract is up in the summer so he can call the tune.
Another fabrication in my eyes :sleepy2:

Exactly why he would come on loan,Sharpen up with us and would have no shortage of job offers as a free agent.Come to think of it he'll have loads of offers regardless.

Because his agent's brothers have just started a trial at CCFC. Coincidence?

If he did come on loan it would mean WHU won't get a penny for him as he is out of contract in the summer according to this board. Why would they do that ?
If anything they will sell in January imo

1.WHU may well be looking for a loan fee for one and also negotiate on the percentage of his wages paid by the loanee club. Not to be sniffed at.Although he may not end up with us I would be very surprised if he didn't go somewhere as apparently he's not in the managers plans.
