Anthony Pilkington likely to leave Cardiff City in the summer, says Neil Warnock

Neil Warnock has revealed Anthony Pilkington is likely to leave Cardiff City during the January transfer window.

The 29-year-old winger has been plying his trade with the Bluebirds since joining from Norwich City in 2014.

But his time seems to be up in the Welsh capital with Neil Warnock revealing that the Irish international is likely to move on come the start of 2018.

Warnock spoke to supporters this evening at the Cardiff City Stadium in a Q and A event and he revealed the latest on Pilkington’s situation.

“Everyone knows Pilks hasn’t been in my thoughts but he’s never complained,” said the veteran boss.

“He’s always done well in training and I said to him ‘train and do what you can’. But chances are, he will leave in January, if I’m honest.”

Pilkington hasn’t made a single league appearance for the Bluebirds this season, with just two cup displays to his name.

The 29-year-old has suffered from injury problems during his time in South Wales, and indeed throughout his career, but he has still managed to rack up 95 appearances, scoring 17 league goals for the Bluebirds.

Pilkington was Cardiff’s star man during the 2015/16 season when they narrowly missed out on the play-offs, but he hasn’t replicated such form since.

Having said that, he has still managed to create some special moments with a fantastic winning goal against Severnside rivals Bristol City last season being the pick of the bunch.

The winger remained in Warnock’s plans last season, but following the emergence of Kadeem Harris towards the back-end of last season, Junior Hoilett’s arrival and the signing of Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, he has slipped out of contention.

Pilkington will be desperate to secure regular first-team football and it comes as no surprise that a move is on the cards after playing just two of Cardiff’s 21 fixtures in all competitions so far this season.

His move could also free up some funds if Neil Warnock decides he wants to add to his squad during the winter window.

I really think this is a shame. Fred and Halford have not impressed at all, but a confident Pilks offers so much. However, he probably wants regular football and I don't blame him.

He's probably on 25k a week so I can't see who's going to take a gamble on him.

personally prefer pilks to feeney. should have used pilks instead of wasting loan wages on Feeney.
might have put a bit of value on pilks aswell if he did well.

Pilks has no pace - Feeney does.
Warnock likes wingers with pace

i'm surprised pilkington never worked out - he started brightly but has become dispensable. he's obviously a reminder of the OGS splurge of big salaries, and he'll go in january if we can find someone who will pay a good portion of his salary.

Think Pilks is one of the last big earners and Warnock wants him gone.Noone,Whitts,Lambert looks like Gunner and Pilks were either offered substantially less contracts or told to find another club.

To describe him as a 'winger' is a misnomer....we've mostly used him as a lone striker or number ten. I think his wages are a big factor. Feeney has pace but generally no end product. Pilks on form offers real skill.

A player with top ability but just doesn't show it, he's better off the bench than he is starting, I think it's time to move him on.

Can't sit here and say he done this in the past and has these traits when he doesn't show it on a consistent basis.

To the tool who said we are wasting on wages on Feeney, what you basing that on? When he has played he works tirelessly and has had a good go for us, never puts a foot wrong yet you rather Pilkington who's inconsistent and doesn't 100% want to be here.
