Cardiff boss Neil Warnock: "Doubtful we'll catch Wolves"
By Tim Spiers

Monday 27th November 2017

Cardiff boss Neil Warnock has insisted it's 'doubtful' his team can catch leaders Wolves.

The Bluebirds beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 at the City Ground on Sunday to keep the gap to Nuno Espirito Santo's side to four points, following Wolves' 5-1 win over Bolton a day earlier.

Warnock believes that Wolves will spend big again in January and won't be caught by Cardiff – but took issue with Bolton boss Phil Parkinson, who says they'd win the league by 10 points.

"It's doubtful because I would imagine they will spend another £20m in January if I'm honest," he said.

"But they've done it right and they play great football – I've watched some of the stuff they've played.

"What I did say when we played Wolves was that whoever finished above Wolves will definitely go up.

"I still stick by that. I don't know how Phil can say that because he hasn't played us yet."

Warnock came close to landing the Wolves manager's job in 2012 when Mick McCarthy was sacked and he was interviewed to be his successor.

He said at the time that Wolves and Steve Morgan took too long over their decision so he went to Leeds instead, with Wolves eventually giving the job to Terry Connor until the end of that season.

Warnock repeated that yesterday and said it was Morgan's 'biggest mistake'.

"The Wolves fans have had it rough over the years," he added. "My biggest mistake – and Steve Morgan's – was not taking over at Wolves.

"He should have snapped me up when I had the interview after Mick went.

"I was there but Ken Bates said he would just give me the (Leeds) job without interviewing me so I took it and that was my biggest mistake in my career because I like Wolves, it's a proper football club."

Wolves next 6 games

Brum (away)
Sunderland (home)
Sheff Wed (away)
Ipswich (home)
Millwall (away)
Bristol (away)

I'd say Wolves could drop points in midlands derby, away to Wednesday and Millwall, maybe lose against the Wurzels.

Wolves are the team to beat, and the pressure is firmly on them. All teams will drop points here and there, and whoever lasts the distance will get promoted,,,,& have my utmost respect.

4 points is nothing. Wolves haven't really done much yet against top 6 teams.

Its a statement you'd like to hear public from NW, though Id imagine his team talk is quite the opposite.....

Thats like saying Villa cant catch us (5 points)
Wolves can be caught and we are the best placed team to do it . 4 points to catch up over half a season to go is not a big gap . Personally i am over the moon where we are in the league .We seem to have a goalscorer now aswell along with a solid defence. Zahore got his work cut out to get back in this team. From what I have seen this season it us Ward's shirt now and he has chalkenged Zahore in the right way.

I said a few weeks ago that I thought wolves would smash this league now and still think it. Hope I’m wrong but they are looking very, very strong..

Well we beat them away, and if we beat them home its one point difference, yes Wolves are looking very strong but so are we.
