Cardiff City U23s 2 Bristol City U23s 2

A good come back for the Bristol Under 23's as they fielded mainly teanagers.

Bristol Post

Monday 27th November 2017

Just before the last international break, Bristol City did the business by beating Cardiff City at Ashton Gate in the first Severnside derby of the season.

Callum O'Dowda got the Robins off to a great start before Omar Bogle equalised and Aden Flint popped up for the winning header on that occasion.

Today it's the turn of the younger players as the Robins and Bluebirds meet in their latest Development League fixture.

Luke William's side haven't been in great form in this 'bread and butter' competition recently, losing to Charlton and Watford before drawing to QPR in their last fixture.

However, the Bristol under 23's have also been thrashed 7-0 by Liverpool and beaten rivals Bristol Rovers 3-2 from being 2-0 down.

BRISTOL POST

Match analysis

Couple of final thoughts after the Robins come back from 2-0 down...

Luke Williams’ side really pushed back the hosts in the second half, but also for large parts of the first too. It’s a pretty young side that City have fielded today (with another game involving the senior side going on at the training ground today and several U23 regulars getting a call up for that, such as Tyreeq Bakinson and Rory Holden). The pitch wasn’t the best, however, and not the most conducive for a game based on skill.

But saying that, there were several marvelous individual performances put in. My eye was caught by James Morton, Marcus Day, Antoine Semenyo and Ricardo Rees, who only came on late in the game. All excelled at times, but it was a good team performance too.

Cardiff looked good on the break but had less of the ball and less territory. Mark Harris was handful throughout and could have had several goals.

REPORT: CARDIFF CITY UNDER-23S 2-2 BRISTOL CITY UNDER-23S

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 27TH 2017

City Under-23s came from two goals behind to secure a 2-2 draw against Cardiff City in the Development League this afternoon.
The Bluebirds broke the deadlock in the 30th minute when Mark Harris produced a low finish from 30 yards, before Harvey Smith inadvertently turned the ball into his own net to double the hosts’ advantage.

Luke Williams’ side dominated proceedings after the interval however, and it didn’t take long for Kel Akpobire to halve the deficit when he reacted quickest to poke home from close range.

With the full time whistle approaching, Harris thought he’d put the game to bed, only for the frontman’s finish to be ruled out for offside.

Instead, the visitors found themselves on level terms moments later, with Antoine Semenyo guiding an effort beyond the helpless Oliver Byrne.

The development group will return to competitive action on Monday (December 4th) when they travel to face Charlton Athletic in the Premier League Cup.

City Under-23s: Wollacott, Ali, Plavotic, Morton, Parsons, H Smith, Z Smith, Richards, Semenyo, Day (Rees), Akpobire. Subs not used: Harper, Sesay, Harry Smith.
