I think you need to change the security settings on the router from WEP to WPA.

how do i do that, its a SKY router that sits in the room?
Wed Aug 04, 2010 4:50 pm
sky routers use WPA as standard

Does it ask for a security key when you select the wireless connection?
Wed Aug 04, 2010 9:58 pm
yes, and typed it in correct, and its set, but keeps connecting disconecting aquiring ip address ?
Wed Aug 04, 2010 10:10 pm
As you can connect via the cable it does seem your wireless connection has some property not set properly.
Your router will be set up to give your laptop an IP address once the security code is authenicated. The laptop will accept an IP address from the router if the right properties of the connection are set. You need to go into the properties of the connection and check to see if "Accept ip from DHCP server" is ticked.

right ive done it now, but................... in my router settings i disabled all secuity, and now its let me connect but my network now unsecure
so its somthing to do with the router secuirty
Wed Aug 04, 2010 10:35 pm
Most likely.
Are you convinced you used the right security key?
Wed Aug 04, 2010 10:45 pm
yer tried it a dozen times, all corrrect, strange
Wed Aug 04, 2010 10:47 pm
Then I would reset the security key within the router.

Sky routers come with WPA security. I'd try changing it to WEP.
