NEWS: Leeds to target January move for on loan Cardiff City left back

Leeds United will target a move for Cardiff City’s on loan left back Declan John, according to a report from the Football insider.

John is currently enjoying a spell on loan at Scottish Premiership giants Rangers, after falling down the pecking order under Cardiff boss Neil Warnock.

His impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed at Leeds United and it is said that they will target a January move for John to solve their problematic left back position. Gaetano Berardi, Vurnon Anita, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Stuart Dallas have all played their for Leeds this season but are not seen as a sustainable long-term solution.

The 22-year-old progressed through the ranks at boyhood club Cardiff City and has made 42 appearances for the Bluebirds. Since his debut in 2012, he has struggled to nail down a consistent first team spot at the club.

He has had three loan spells at the club, with the first coming at Barnsley. He made 9 appearances for the Tykes and subsequently returned back to City at the end of the season.

John also spent a month at Chesterfield where he appeared 6 times for the club. His performances at the Spireites caught the eye of his parent club and he was recalled for the end of the season.

John’s longest run in the side came under Paul Trollope but he was sacked and under new boss Neil Warnock he became more of a bit part player. In the summer he joined Rangers on loan and has made 5 appearances, scoring 2 goals.

Leeds have been alerted to his performances and see him as a long-term solution to their left back problem.
