Bailey Wright suspended for visit of Cardiff

Big news breaking from over the water as Bristol City man Bailey Wright has been given a two-match ban for simulation by the FA.

It’s safe to say the Robins aren’t impressed.

Friday 3rd November 2017

Here’s what they’ve had to say about the decision.

Bristol City Football Club fully supports The FA’s attempts to stamp our simulation to protect the fairness and reputation of the game. However, it is quite clear from all the evidence that this case does not fall within the scope of the offence of “the successful deception of a match official”.
This is a clear case in which there has been genuine contact between two players, which has caused Bailey to fall to the ground involuntarily and he has made no attempt to deceive the referee whatsoever.
On finally receiving the full written reasoning next week, we will be consulting our legal team once more to discuss the options available.
In the meantime we will be without Bailey for tomorrow’s Severnside derby with Cardiff, which is a clear injustice against Bailey, the team, the club and its loyal supporters.
I can assure you Lee, the coaching staff and our playing squad will be doing everything in their power to win the match for Bailey and your support will be crucial in that.”

To be fair to the carrot crunchers I think they have a point.

It was a ridiculous decision by the panel as there was obviously contact and probably enough to make him go down, especially when in the EPL we see diving and 'simulation' on another level week in week out.

Good news for us though!

Maybe harsh decision but it does send a message that got to be careful what you do or get a ban, there are going to be perseaved wrong decisions but at end day we want it stamped out and got to start somewhere.

He's been shouldered / shoved/ barged in the chest and gone down holding his face.

Pathetic and cheating.

Quite right to ban him

Maybe Lawnmower but I've seen far worse in the EPL that seem to go unpunished

I think it's a relatively new rule and genuinely hope this is just the start.

The league need to take a hard line if they genuinely want to stamp it out, and that includes any incidents involving our players too.

He was clearly pushed in the chest but definitely over reacted holding his face ffs .
Sick of players rolling around on the floor (ours included) when they are clearly not as injured as they are making out

Just seen incident he clearly pushes him away but to hold his face makes ref believe he smacked him in face when he didn't , so ref sends him off which looks like why hes banned getting apponant sent off through simulation! But i thought even pushing player could meen sending off? Anyway it will send out warning not to over react to a challenge.

Not at all. He's acting. Nothing hit his face and he's trying to Con the ref.

Sick of pathetic, cheating knob heads ruining our game.

Noone went down for no reason in front of us last year, no sympathy- just shouted at him to get up, minute later he was running like a 10 year old.

Just hope the FA stick to their guns and hand out bans every week until this is stamped out

I'm with you on this one no question the player pushes him but he got the player sent off by pretending got smashed in face! That is one of the criteria for retrospective bans, wont get ot right 100% but only way to stop cheating in 1st place.

Apparently FA said red card rescinded because player was sent off because of the reaction of Bristol player hence the reason for ban

yes simulation is cheating..and boy dont we see enough of it..but this was not Craig Noone not fouled rolling around.
fully understand someone having a mega rant about sick pathetic cheats in those cases..but this player was fouled off the ball, makes no appeal to the ref so the only cheat is the fella that commits the foul surely.
as for holding your face after being pushed over..its what humans do..
anyway be interesting to see what comes of it...but i never thought id see the day where players who have 100% been fouled are only allowed to react by some pre arranged acceptable criteria..i thought this new law was to stop diving where there was no contact. but eh oh.

Not only diving but getting opponent sent off by conning ref! Which is what the fa have basically said in this case , he was pushed no question about that but no way was he hit in face? ref sent him off because that's what he thought he did going on reaction of player , that's simulation to get player sent off which is part of new law! You May not agree in this case but cannot deny player over reacted to what actually happened

No. The law is there to stop people play acting to get other players sent off.

As for holding your face when being pushed over, no, that is not normal.
It's only done by pathetic cheats with no pride who try to get other players sent off.

I hope the FA get loads of publicity for doing the right thing here and stick to their guns and punish every player caught doing something similar.

Football should be about players with skill and courage, not cowardly cheats .

I totally agree with Tim the sooner the cheats are weeded out of the game the better it’s a great step by the FA however they must continue and be consistent and no favouring the so called bigger clubs / star players

This is insane...

The bloke storms up to Bailey and smashes him to the ground.

Bailey literally does nothing, 2 match ban.

Kamara, ah carry on son.

WEIRD....

I just watched the video and it's fair to say Cidercity1987 is exaggerating the drama queen country bumpkin

Totally agree. The excuse that we have seen 'a lot worse' has run it's course and it's time to start clamping down.
