I know Fred was only in the squad last night because Zohore’s injured, but I still find it interesting how Fred was selected for the bench as well as Ward and instead of Pilkington. Pilkington’s scoring freely for the development squad and he really deserves to be in the main squad. Last season, Warnock said Fred was the best finisher in training.
I thought Fred’s days were numbered as he seemed to have an attitude issue. However, Warnock put him on the bench last night. After missing the start of the season with injury, Fred has played a couple of development games and perhaps he’s started to knuckle down and shown enough in training for Warnock to put him in the squad?
Now Fred has had a few development games, it will be interesting to see if Fred’s performances for the development squad improve as he continues to get fitter. He strikes me as a mobile, powerful striker, I see similar attributes to Zohore in him. Hopefully, Fred can turn things around and give Warnock something to think about as if 2 of our 3 main strikers get injured or underperform, we might need Fred to step in.

I was surprised to see him on the bench last night, especially as there was already a striker on the bench.
Shows that he’s not completely out of Warnock’s plans. Maybe he can do as you say, and help Gounongbe to be good enough.

In a way I would hope Fred is a better finisher than Zohore. I have never been entirely convinced with Zohore's finishing. Apart from a good little spell over a few months towards the end of last season, Zohore's stats are not exactly brilliant, and he has scored in just two of our league games so far this season.
As I have said before, I know I am probably in a minority of one as far as Zohore is concerned, but I am not convinced he is going to be the 20 goal plus player that most seem to think he will be. Hope I am wrong, time will tell.

Power, pace and a strong shot....from what I've seen Fred lacks all of them. Bogle, on the other hand....

I’d be interested in how we’d fare if Zohore played with Bogle. Both are similar strikers but would be a real handful for most teams in this division.
Can’t see it happening anytime soon mind, as our current system has taken us to 2nd in the league.

Fred may not have set things alight but he was always in and around the box. Everyone remembers his miss at Birmingham but forget that against Rovers the following week we didn't have a shot until he came on late in the game and hit the post - probably should have scored admittedly. He was playing in a poor side and at least he was getting in positions and that's half the trick. I didn't rate Zohore and have to admit I was very wrong. Given the supply he would get from the likes NML, Hoilett and Tomlin I wouldn't write him off if Zohore has a lengthy spell out with injuries. And while Zohore is class, he is better in the air than him.

Fred has improved since Warnock arrived and is better than Zohore at holding the ball up. Useful to have on the ench if we are trying to see a game out and defending deep. It gives us a breather and a chance to regroup in defence.

Probably not as we have more options this year so he won’t likely get a run.
