Interesting developments over next few days and I for one hope the Spanish government don't damage their country any further by force and more violence against a democracy.

Most brave catalonians realise they dont need to be richer to be free. They just be brave enough to be free.
Like Wales and Scotland.

This seems to be the whole point, it's perfectly acceptable that many Catalans may not want independence (note: in the referendum, they were not stopped from voting). However, the Spanish government don't seem to be allowing a true democratic process to take place and let them decide

I wonder if the UK or US of Trump will send a military task force in now to protect them? It's a bit like Kuwait all over again

Tony, NO, they try to make Mallorca and all the Balearic Islands part of them, what it is, that Mallorca has been working with them for the last 10 years, Councils, govt's etc.
Mallorca would Never join Catalonia, they would if anything try for their own independence, but that would prob never happen.
Because of what Catalonia has done and been doing , Many Spanish bars have stopped buying products from Catalonia, Sam Miguel, meat etc.
All the main offices of banks have left Catalonia in the last 2 weeks and moved to Palma in Mallorca, so in fact we have gained.
Mallorca has already pledged its allegiance to Madrid.:thumb right:
The election in Catalonia was only done by 40% of their population and in one village where 580 people lived, 800 people some how voted![]()

I love you people who know what even the 'locals' don't!![]()
One of the reasons the Catalans didn't go out and vote was that overall (majority) they don't back the idea of separation. Many ordinary Spaniards live/work in the Catalan region and (like Scotland's former First Minister Alec Salmond and our own Leanne Wood) their political leaders are only truly representative of their own personal views/ambitions!
Catalonia has created a dangerous situation not only for themselves but Spain as a country and also (some will rejoice in this with no thought of the consequences for the whole of Europe, including the UK) the EU machine itself!![]()
I guess the only good thing that could come of it would be Barca's twin town Swansealona asking for the same but I think the rest of wales would back that vote!![]()

Sven agree catalonians know they cannot survive as a separate state/country and its only minority nationalists who want it just like here in uk. Having said that doesn't help when Spanish gvmnt bullies and provokes them unnecessarily.

Allan, Scotland would be the best equipped and even they know deep down it would be exceptionally tough now the oil industry is in decline. Wales, like Catalonia, simply couldn't cope on its own and as much as we (rightly on occasion) moan about the London-entric Government of the UK, it could be a lot worse!![]()
I agree that the Spanish government have gone about this the wrong way and it will take some exceptional diplomacy to pull things back together!
