Cardiff City are ready to sign Venezuela defender Rolf Feltscher after a proposed move to Birmingham City fell through after failing a medical.

The same publication reported last month that Birmingham were close to signing Feltscher, who is a free agent after leaving Getafe at the end of last season.

But Feltscher remained without a club after the Blues sacked then boss Harry Redknapp, and according to the Sun he still fancies a move to the Championship.

It is claimed in the report that Feltscher had been set to sign for MLS outfit, LA Galaxy, but he is said to have trained with Cardiff on Sunday.

The Switzerland-born 27-year-old can play anywhere across the back four, and would strengthen Neil Warnock's options ahead of the Championship's gruelling winter schedule.

Cardiff, who lost 1-0 at Birmingham last weekend, have remained in the division's automatic promotion places after beating Middlesbrough away on Saturday.

Would Feltscher be a good signing for the Bluebirds?

He failed the medical almost 4 months ago. He's since played internationals. I would say his injury's likely gone now.

A short term contract like the ones initially offered to Bamba, Hoillet , Chamakh and Richardson this time last year gives the player and the club a chance to check each other out.

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has reportedly indicated that he wants to sign Venezuelan defender Rolf Feltscher.

The Bluebirds currently sit in second place in the Championship standings, as well as possessing the best defensive record at the second tier, but it appears that Warnock is keen on strengthening his numbers at the back.

According to the media, free agent Feltscher has started training with the Welsh club ahead of a probable transfer in the near future.

The 27-year-old spent the second half of last season playing for Real Zaragoza, with nine appearances coming in the Segunda Division.

Feltscher has been without a club since the summer, but the centre-back was part of the Venezuela side which drew with Argentina as recently as September, although the 16-cap international did put through his own net in that game.
