Barcelona were assured by security chiefs that their La Liga game with Las Palmas could go ahead.

But Barcelona’s board have ruled the game won't go ahead, despite La Liga's objections.

The decision to suspend the game could lead to Barcelona losing three points in La Liga.

There are concerns clashes between voters and police over Catalonia’s controversial independence referendum could have affected the staging of today’s game.

The Catalan Football Federation have suspended all of their games.

Barcelona cancelled their lunch with Las Palmas directors to continue discussions over whether or not to postpone the game.

Lionel Messi and co. had arrived at the Nou Camp in preparation for the match.

Barcelona is one of Catalonia’s biggest cities and is staging its vote on independence from Spain today.

The Spanish government does not recognise the vote but thousands of people are expected to vote on the referendum today.

This could get messy, say they did manage to get independence, pissing off the Spanish government, could the government then kick Barca out of the Spanish league? Basically killing off Barca as a club as they’d have hardly any matches to play and handing the title to a Madrid based club more than likely.....

They might vote for independence but they will not be allowed it.

If they do vote in favour it will then be interesting to see if Barca will lead a breakaway group and form their own league.

It's reported over that Barcelona were going to wear Catalonia badges and Las Palmas badges with the Spanish flag on.

They had to speak to both clubs about this and they were warned severely.

What's the feeling over there, I could be wrong but I thought a bit of Catalan was spoken in Mallorca, polls I've seen suggest the majority of Catalans don't want independence and much like Scotland the secessionists are noisier.

The Island is divided.

Atletico Baleares fans mainly support independence or are supporting the Catalonia people.

All Atletico Baleares songs are in Catalan or shall we say Majorcan as they are so similar

Real Mallorca fans mainly are against Catalonia.

In all schools Civil Service, Hospitals etc you have to speak both languages Spanish and Catalan, both very very different languages.

' In the World '

580 million people speak Spanish.
3.5mill people speak Catalan.

Barcelona virtually controls Mallorca, they joined forces about 10 yrs ago.
If they had a vote to be independent from Spain in Mallorca, they would fail drastically as of the 1.2mill people that live here, the majority were born in Mainland Spain.

Both my children speak both languages fluent.

Every sign in Mallorca is now Spanish first, then Catalan, then English.

Went to the school meeting and 99% of the Spanish parents in there don't speak Catalan, yet lessons are mainly in Catalan, once in play ground, they speak Spanish

I find it incredible people are having a go at Barcelona the over riding issue is not wether you agree with the idea of independence it is the fact the people in favour of independence were protesting peacefully there was no aggression from them whatsoever the aggression came from the police. Oh Annis by the way your stats on people speaking Spanish is correct but look at how many countries speak the language. Puerto Rico: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Spain, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
You could say the say the same about English and Welsh Languages
