Etheridge doubters

To all those who doubted him you can't deny he saved us today

I think over the season so far he has done well. He did have a shaky period though and nothing wrong with people noticing it. I think at times he lacks confidence and hopefully that will come.

I think he is a good shot stopper but still had a lot to learn to cut out silly mistakes that have at times cost us and at other times it hasn't.

I think he remains number 1 now but camp will be awaiting a mistake to push forward his case.

Beat me to it mate, i was going to put up the same post, thought he was great at the Leeds game as well.

He was hung out to dry the game before last. One poor game and he was completely trashed by quite a few people on here including some of the big hitters but that's what generates the hits.

At two nil last Tuesday against Leeds he made a double save and there was no mention from the same people on here.

This is my frustration on here people have a pop but when the person does good not a mention - sale with the signings when they good they the mangers when they shit they Tans

Etheridge has more than proved himself from preseason. MOTM today, sublime close reaction save which would otherwise cost us the game. Superb double stop too as he did with Leeds in the week. And he's only going to get better.

Indeed, completely trashed. Typical knee jerk reactions. He's been great this season.

Yep, the 'Negativos' will have to find another target now! ;)

Etheridge has more than played his part in City's great start to the season! :thumbright: :ayatollah:

Never once slated etheridge like others did . I noticed how good he was at ththe start and IMO I think peltier and Morrison are the weak links in the team.

Before him it was Morrison who I also felt that the constant criticism by some was totally unjust. Especially by clowns like that guy from Tonteg who berated him all the time.

Etheridge is a very decent championship goalkeeper whether he ends up as no1 or no2 at our club.

He made excellent saves at crucial moments that saved the game against QPR and Derby in the last minute (which has been worth three points to us), turned the game against Villa and prevented any chance of an unlikely Leeds comeback. He had a spell when he made a few mistakes which has cost us goals but on balance he has been a good signing and will get better.

Paul, if Etheridge ends up as No.2 keeper for us, then that would indicate just how good/strong our keeper options are! :ayatollah:

Preston aside, Etheridge has done fantastically well for City. I’m more than happy to have him here.

That was my point Chris but I'm wondering who our next scapegoat will be?

Yes, totally agree with your comments Paul. No one is exempt to the wrath of the 'Negativos' and it all depends on which Shepherd to sheep are following on any given day! ;) :laughing6:

Morrison has improved this season, but I did a post recently saying how much Etheridge has helped Morrison this season, as unlike our previous keepers of Alexander, Marshall and McGregor who all stayed on their line, Etheridge is decisive and comes off his line to deal with crosses and through balls. This allows our defense to push up a bit more and close any gaps between the midfield and defense, resulting in less players being able to pick the ball up in front of our defense, turn and run at Morrison which is where Morrison struggles. Etheridge coming off his line to sweep up balls played behind our defense also helps Morrison's lack of pace.

I had every right to express my concerns on Morrison as he was directly at fault for a lot of goals we conceded last season. This season, Morrison sold himself against Scott Hogan but Etheridge charged off his line to make a great one on one save, Morrison scored a calamitous own goal in the cup and he made a ridiculous sliding challenge away at Sunderland to give away the penalty.

So Morrison is still a player who makes mistakes and the player I'm most worried about in a Cardiff shirt. But overall, Morrison has improved this season because his overall performances have improved, he's making less mistakes than usual and having a much improved, energetic midfield in front of him and a more decisive, commanding goalkeeper behind is a massive help to him.

Finally, I would like to point out that I am always fair and balanced with my opinions and I can express my opinions without resorting to your abusive name calling, which is pathetic and embarrassing, but very amusing to me all the same. :thumbright:

mostly agree with this. {thought youve been over harsh on SM }
also mystified how people cant see what a massive difference this type of keeper makes.
