Manager of Cardiff City Neil Warnock looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City at Loftus Road on March 4, 2017 in London, England.

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has told Sky Sports (26/09/2017) and Wales Online that he was delighted with how Sol Bamba performed against former club Leeds United on Tuesday night.

The Bluebirds beat Sunderland 2-1 on Saturday afternoon to continue their fine start to the season, and were back in South Wales on Tuesday night to take on fellow high-flyers Leeds United.

Warnock saw his side completely dominate his former club in the first half, with Kenneth Zohore and Junior Hoilett finding the net before Liam Cooper was sent off for the visitors before the break.

Zohore added a third before the break to seal Cardiff's win, and whilst Kemar Roofe's deflected strike did pull one back for Leeds, it was Cardiff's night.

Manager Warnock will not only be delighted to have leapfrogged Leeds into top spot in the Championship table, but also for getting a win over his former club.

Another Cardiff man to be taking on his former club was Sol Bamba, with the Ivorian stepping into an unfamiliar holding midfielder role amid a host of injuries in the Cardiff midfield.

Bamba starred against Leeds, prompting manager Warnock to reveal that he spoke to Bamba immediately after the full time whistle, telling him that he was his main man against Leeds.

Warnock added that the criticism from Leeds fans would help spur Bamba on to a strong performance, praising him for doing a 'super job' in such an unfamiliar position.

“I said to big Sol Bamba 'you were my man tonight' and I thought he was outstanding,” Warnock told Sky Sports (26/09/2017).

“I’ve got to say, it never worried me because I know what the big man (Bamba) can do. I knew the atmosphere would help him with what they (Leeds fans) say about him. I think it drives him on and I just said to him to do his best. It’s strange, I never thought about it until the Sunday afternoon when I first heard about the injuries, but he came in and did a super job,”
