How long before Tomlin becomes a 'Tan' signing?

Thu Sep 28, 2017 6:20 am

Of course I jest but in all seriousness the more Tomlin is unused the more I wonder why he was bought? Not a typical Warnock player at all. Doesn't seem to fit into any position in a 433 or 442. Weird that a manager so astute with money would blow a significant portion of his budget on this player.

To me seems very much like a Whittingham type player.

He obviously wasn't. Warnock has said so himself. But how can he get in the team at the moment? Everyone is playing so well.

Totally disagree. Taarabt is hardly a Warnock -type, yet thrived under him. Tomlin is very, very talented and the best player we have to unpick massed defences. As the season progresses, more teams will cone here to shut up shop and Tomlin will show his worth.

The unfortunate reality for Tomlin is that we've been playing so well that he's not been able to get a sniff, BUT as others have said, it's a long season and he'll get his chance. I don't buy into the idea that he doesn't press or that he's a Whitts type player - when we played Sheff Utd I was impressed by the amount of running he did - it wasn't as much as Bryson or Damour, but those two are inhuman!

I think he would have been perfect against Leeds towards the end of the second half when the Leeds defence was clearly getting tired. Ward was making some great runs and it only needed Tomlin's passing ability and intelligence to release him. But it wasn't really a priority as we were smashing them anyway.

its pretty obvious from what Warnock said when he signed him that Tomlin was ging to be a key player this term..what changed.?.wel NML and Damour neither of whom cost a lot or had championship experience both worked out better than NW or any of us could imagine..we didnt lose anyone of value to Warnock in the window.and then to top it all off he gets Bryson on loan ..possibly the whole window worked out much much better and differently than he expected, players performed much better.and all put together it actually changed his vision of how we play..
i think Tomlin might still be a good signing and dont think the fee should be bothering us too much..bit different if youve blown your budget on flops and the team is poor..but when free transfers are playing so well they aare keeping the more expensive players out i dont see any issue.
as said by someone else he had Taarabt at QPR and as seen by comments on other clubs message boards this year..there is this mind set about Warnock..Warnock type players..and Warnock teams..no matter how attractive and exciting the football peoples opinions are set...

Exactly. If he was gonna put him on then would have been perfect.

It was a joke. It's a play on how every bad signing was deemed a Tan signing.

Agreed, I don't get where this idea that Tomlin doesn't work hard comes from, I saw him against Burton and Sheff Utd and thought he worked really hard and pressed and was always willing to run. I agree it would have been nice to see him come on with 15mins to go as Ward was crying out for someone to play him through.

Assuming he avoids a custodial punishment for his alleged misdemeanour, I think Tomlin will play a big part in this season as the winter fixtures start piling up and he won't let anyone down on the pitch :thumbright:

City wouldn't have signed him 'blind' and they would have known what was coming and (like many others) he will just have to be a little patient and seize his chance when it comes! :ayatollah:

Tomlin has still got a MASSIVE part to play this season.

It is an odd one at the moment, I think we started the season better than even Neil Warnock anticipated.

I agree with this, once the hearing is out of the way i suspect we may see more of him.

As a few others have mentioned similarities to Tarrabt perhaps...

I agree also with that court case hanging over his head NW might be holding him back. Once it's out of the way LT will be off the leash and ready for action (providing he's not banged up of course :? )
