Kenneth Zohore was linked with Everton in the summer, and proved why with an excellent display in Cardiff City's midweek win.

After the opening weeks of the season, Everton, despite their own striker struggles, may have been glad that their summer interest in Cardiff striker Kenneth Zohore came to nothing as he went into Tuesday's clash with Leeds having not scored a single goal since the opening day.

BBC Sport reported towards the end of the transfer window that the Toffees had enquired about the 23-year-old, but the Bluebirds rejected their advances.

It is unclear how much of an impact the speculation had on the former Denmark under-21 international, but he failed to score or contribute an assist following news of Everton's interest.

But his latest display proved exactly why the Premier League side wanted to bring Zohore to Goodison Park during the summer window, as he helped Neil Warnock's men send themselves to the top of the Championship with an emphatic win over Leeds.

The youngster scored twice on the night, but his overall play gave Leeds - who went into the game at the top of the table - a host of problems that they simply could not cope with.

The performance has been on the cards for Zohore as, while the goals had dried up in the weeks before the Leeds game, he had still managed to put in some good displays. But while Warnock may perhaps be feeling that Zohore finally got the rewards he has deserved against his old side, he will also know that if it is the catalyst for a fruitful run, it may make Cardiff's job of keeping him tougher.
