The night colossal Sol Bamba left Leeds United, Cardiff City and pretty much all football fans absolutely stunned

It was quite a night for Cardiff City and Sol Bamba was absolutely immense

As the final whistle blew to signal the end of the greatest night of Cardiff City's season so far , there was only one thing on Neil Warnock's mind.

"Where's Sol, where's Sol?," he asked assistant Kevin Blackwell.

Bamba, who minutes before had been substituted to a standing ovation after a truly colossal performance in an unfamiliar midfield role, duly stepped forward.

"F***ing brilliant, son, absolutely f***ing brilliant," Warnock told him as he wrapped his arms around the player who sees him more as a father than a boss.

And so say all of us.

The indifference of Leeds United fans towards Bamba when he was released by the club and headed for Cardiff in October last year is well-documented by now. Bamba was a nice guy, but he wasn't all that good, was the general theme.

Such notions seem rather daft in light of what's transpired since, culminating in a display last night that really was something to behold.

Certainly, it had the jaws of Cardiff City fans hitting the deck in admiration...

If Cardiff fans were revelling in the brilliance of Bamba, Leeds supporters were confused, stunned and often appalled by what they were witnessing.

This wasn't the Sol Bamba they had got rid of. This wasn't the player whose weaknesses were sure to be exposed within a few months of his arrival in South Wales. It was a strange night indeed for the 3,000-strong travelling Leeds contingent who, in fairness, supported their team superbly throughout.

Here's a flavour of their troubled evening...

So why was Bamba so good?

As the reaction of the fans featured above suggests, Bamba was everywhere and everything here. The number of times he broke up Leeds attacks, read the play at least a second before everyone else and then strode forward with purpose was quite remarkable.

By the end he was pirouetting around would-be tacklers and threading through balls that were met with the affectionate laughter of the supporters who couldn't quite believe what they were seeing from their cult hero.

And all this while he engaged in an endearing and ongoing 90-minute verbal exchange with Warnock on the sidelines that veered from the humorous to the fiercely argumentative and back again throughout.

It was a night to be enjoyed by Bamba, Warnock and the 27,000 supporters who brought the good times back to the Welsh capital, but it was also a night that raised a few questions going forward - the main one being should Bamba be used in this midfield role more often?

When people are mistaking you for Patrick Vieira in his pomp, you've probably got your answer.

And that's why I voted for him and he deserves the MOM last night ahead of Hoilet.

Loved it very proud of all the lads at city .
Shows we can compete with the top teams in the division.
I like the style of play very direct and i love old school wing play.
I also love the intensity ti win the ball back.
We look strong pacey and we loom a real good team.
Warnock typifies all of this his passion is brilliant. His team is so organised hard to beat.

I think stats took over the MOM last night rather than the actual performance on the field, not taking it away from Hoilett though.

I haven't seen a performance like that since maybe Noone v Wolves? Truly spectacular.
