Train to Fulham-slight saving ideas

Wed Sep 06, 2017 3:56 pm

Thinking of going up on the train on Saturday but I don't want to be stuck to any one train on an advanced ticket

An adult return to London is £76. However if you buy a return to Swindon (£21)and then a return from Swindon to London (£46) it goes down to £67. Not a massive saving but worth the hassle. I think you are technically supposed to get off the train at Swindon and theN get back on it!

Anyone know of a cheaper way?

You don't have to get off, you are allowed to stay on the train. I do it all the time. You can do it with advance fares and can save even more.

When you split a ticket you are also covered with the full rights for compensation as you would with a normal ticket.

I wasn't going to get off but nice to know I don't have to. Too old to be jumping on and off trains!

I think the cheapest way, would be to travel Victoria Coach Station with either Megabus or National Express, although the journey is not very nice, it would cost about £19 return.

You can then go to Victoria underground station and take the District line to Putney Bridge.

Try splitting from Swindon to Reading and then reading to Paddington.

That usually save a few quid

Thank for tip. I looked at this some time ago but decided against it as not keen on scheduled bus journeys.

We always do. Home made bacon rolls and a coffee from the buffet on the 125. Back home by 10pm for pizza, a couple of beers and Match of the Day. Living the dream!
