Huddersfield Town’s Under-23 side were defeated 2-1 by Cardiff City in the Professional Development League on Monday afternoon

Frankie Bunn’s side welcomed Cardiff City to PPG Canalside for their fourth game of the Professional Development League campaign.

Frankie was forced into multiple changes with regulars Ryan Schofield & Danny Kane both on international duty. Regan Booty was also unavailable as he had played a part for the first team in yesterday’s 3-0 win over Altona 93 in Hamburg.

The game kicked off at 1pm with a reasonable crowd assembling in readiness for the tie that would take place on the front pitch of Town’s training ground.

The game began with the first goal going in the way of The Bluebirds with only 12 minutes played. Jarred Harvey got on the scoresheet as he headed his side into the lead following a cross that came in from the left.

Town were looking for a way back into the game and on the stroke of half time introduced Ben Jackson to proceedings at the expense of Romoney Critchlow-Noble.

Cardiff went onto double their lead in the 60th minute as Town were punished on the counter attack putting them at a two-goal deficit with around half-an-hour remaining.

Under-18s forward, George Danaher was then introduced with around 25 minutes remaining as Town looked for a way back into the game. Danaher was on in place of full-back Deshane Dalling as Frankie Bunn shuffled his side.

Five minutes after coming on George Danaher got his goal, reducing the deficit to one goal and handing Town a lifeline back into the game. Town then made their third and final change as Scott High was brought on in place of captain, Lewis O’Brien.

The goal wasn’t to come as Town were condemned to a 2-1 defeat at PPG Canalside. Next up for the U23s is a trip to Bristol City next Monday.

Town’s starting line-up (4-2-3-1):
Tadgh Ryan; Romoney Critchlow-Noble (Ben Jackson, 45’), Dylan Cogill, Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Deshane Dalling (George Danaher, 62’); Lewis O’Brien (Scott High, 84’), Isaac Marriott; Luca Colville, Matty Daly, Dom Tear; Olly Dyson

Unused Subs:
Luke Mewitt, Oran Thompson

U23 Report: Huddersfield Town 1-2 Cardiff City

05/09/17

After leaving it late to defeat Crewe Alexandra in their last game, City looked to pick up another win when they met the Terriers at their training ground for the 1pm kick off.

Nine U23 regulars weren’t able to feature due to their international duties, with the Bluebirds including a number of first year scholars along with five trialists for the afternoon encounter.

Cardiff started the brighter of the two sides and were rewarded with their positive play early on in the 12th minute. Playing effectively up front, one of City's trialists headed home the opener after a terrific cross from the left.

Before the interval, City fought to extend their lead but were denied by Tadgh Ryan in the opposition’s goal. The Terrier’s also squandered chances to go on level terms as the City defence remained resilient before the break.

In the 60th minute, Cardiff made it 2-0, with the Bluebirds' trialist adding his second of the game. Cardiff produced a dangerous counter attack, and the no.9 finished expertly for the visitors.

With 22 minutes left of play the home side pulled a goal back. Substitute George Danaher was the man to score, giving the hosts a lifeline in the closing stages.

However, this proved to be merely a consolation for Frankie Bunn’s side as the Bluebirds defiantly held out for the three points. The deserved victory saw Cardiff climb to seventh in the PDL2 South table.

Next up for Harvey’s side will be a home fixture against Hull City at 7pm on Monday, 11th September.
