Why do owners have to mess with Clubs identities ?

Sun Sep 03, 2017 4:54 pm

All it does is upset the Clubs fans and cause a big divide.

I just read West Ham fans are up in arms and fighting back still

If you look carefully at the 92 clubs you will find alterations in some shape or other in probably a few clubs, EG southampton gone from broad red/white stripes to pinstripe ones! Not much change but altering it all the same. Noticed others with similar alterations. Is there a need to do it though in 1st place?

yellow was introduced to our colours in the mid seventies. was well recieved and became part of our history, so although i semi agree with your..is there a need...some changes are good ones.?????????
not sure that the yellow stripe if intoduced for the very first time was now in 2017 it would be well recieved though.

Liverpool are a strange case if you look at old pictures of the kop its a sea of union flags and st Georges crosses.now they seem to have some bond with Celtic and sing similar songs. its like the fans have changed the identity themselves.

Of course the real answer for changing strips even by small part is financial? Different kit means fans wanting to buy it, if i remember correctly man u had around 4 different strips on go at same time years ago!! :o

The ONLY way to fight is by boycotting. We learnt this the hard way. Too long not being listened to. But it's hard to turn your back on the players

I remember some fans complaining about the yellow stripe back in 75/76. Not that many, but some.

Yer I've often wondered why there was no boycotts or marches when Sam changed our badge and club identity. Many clubs badges have changed over the years, don't know why the castle was added to the hammers badge but it wasn't there in the old days.

The great Bobby Moore in his hammers shirt. Seems the gent who goes on about the castle being so important don't know his badge history as well as he thought he did.

It was relegation rather than the rebrand which led to reduced crowds. We had almost full houses for 2 years playing in red during the Championship winning season and the PL. Relegation came and we made a pathetic start to life back in the Championship and the fans left in droves.

The strange thing is even though those fans left because 'glory' had dried up they had the unforeseen effect of putting pressure on the club to reverse the rebrand.

So boycotting does work but you won't see fans boycotting when the club is winning or playing in the PL.

I couldn't give two hoots what those cockney scum do. I'm just saying the only way to fight an owner over identity change is boycotting I'm sure the OP mentions that some are unhappy and fighting back?

You only have to look at how the Cardiff City badge has changed over the years. I am sure under the SH era it went to a yellow and black badge with a bluebird on - don't remember anyone protesting over that.

It's a shame because I like the tradition of some of the old badges and don't see what the fuss is about with the West Ham badge but must be down to preference

It did Dobbins he chose it with the Valley Rams, they designed for Sam, I refused to buy any of it and told Sam it was wrong.
The Riddler thankfully gave us our badge back :bluebird:

That's two things the riddler did good for Cardiff - change the badge back and introduce the five year price freeze

I was not aware the Valley Rams choose it for Sam - that's come as a surprise. You would have thought it would have had input from the supporters club etc as well but should have been left alone IMO

Dobbins,
Yes they did they even took him to a design shop in Porth, I refused to have anything to do with it.

Yes the Riddler did good on both those things :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

a lot of things are introduced for marketing purposes, press, and sometimes to attract & increase the diversity to a new type of market
