'I didn’t want to stand in his way' - Rovers boss explains decision to let Liam Feeney join Cardiff City on loan

Lancashire Telegraph

Sunday 3rd September 2017

LIAM Feeney made a loan move to Championship leaders Cardiff City on transfer deadline day, with Tony Mowbray saying the Rovers winger goes with his best wishes.

Feeney joined the Bluebirds until January 1 as Rovers allowed the 31-year-old to leave on loan.

The winger had made just one league appearance for Rovers this season, and wasn’t included in the matchday squad for the win at Bradford on August 19, but had started all three of the cup games.

However, Mowbray was keen to allow Feeney to try and get some game-time which he wouldn’t have been assured of at Ewood Park.

“I have always said that I like Liam Feeney as a boy,” Mowbray told the club's official website.
“He gives everything every day in training.
“He suffers disappointments when he doesn’t get in the team, or he gets brought off, but he deals with it pretty well.
“I just thought it was an opportunity that came around for him and we have to be respectful that he’s going to the club currently top of the Championship.
“I spoke to Neil Warnock a few times about him and I wish him well.
“For me when I looked at the break down of the team there are times when everyone is fit where he wouldn’t make the 18.
“I didn’t want to stand in his way, it’s a fantastic opportunity for him and let’s see how he gets on.
“I wish him well, and let’s see how it goes.”

Strange one for me but with Neil Warnock he may relaunch another career

Warnock's judgement is usually impeccable, with only Halford the exception.
Having said that Kennedy looked good when he came on for the second half for Pompey today and I'd like to have seen him given more of a chance.

It's better for us that we have Feeney on a reasonable wage who accepts he will be a bit part player thus allowing Kennedy to get first team football at Pompey improving his value for the club. I just hope
His contract has 3+ years on it really he seems a decent prospect
