Cardiff City poised to make last minute move to sign Wales ace Joe Ledley

Ledley one of two midfielders Neil Warnock is keen on as he seeks to bolster Bluebirds' table-topping squad

Cardiff City are poised to make a last minute transfer swoop to bring Wales star Joe Ledley home.

Ledley is one of two midfielders being considered by boss Neil Warnock, as he seeks to bolster his table-topping squad ahead of the 11pm closure of the transfer window.

The other player is also being targeted, although his name is being kept under close wraps by the Bluebirds.

Warnock is happy with his side who have roared to the top of the Championship, but feels an experienced, bossy midfielder could bring an extra dimension and provide competition for Aron Gunnarsson and Joe Ralls.

Ledley is one of the names under discussion, Warnock believing his tough-tackling, dynamic style of play would be a perfect fit for the Premier League chasing Bluebirds.

Ledley is out of contract, having been released by Crystal Palace, and goes into Wales' World Cup crunch against Austria on Saturday night without any football behind him this season.

Wales boss Chris Coleman is giving his midfield man licence to leave training and talk to clubs to sort out his future, one of them being his home-town Bluebirds.

However, because Ledley is out of contract Cardiff feel there is no immediate hurry and they could sign him after the window has closed anyway.

Ledley's return would prove hugely popular with Bluebirds fans. He established his name with the club after making his debut as a teenager in 2004 and playing 229 matches over a six-year period.

Ledley then moved to Celtic in 2010, before joining Palace. He was released in June and has been without a club since.

He has already turned down offers from two other Championship clubs and has options to play in China, where Ledley could earn a fortune in perhaps the last significant contract of his career.

But sources close to Ledley say he is keen on a return home, even though it would be on a lower salary, and is ready to step down from the Premier League into the Championship.

While Cardiff seek to bring in their new midfielder, there are a number of players likely to be shifted on.

Craig Noone is being linked with Bolton, Declan John is joining Glasgow Rangers and Stuart O'Keefe is also set to leasve.

Young winger Matthew Kennedy may be loaned out to give him regular football, while Cardiff are also understood to be ready to let Anthony Pilkington go at the right price.

No Problem Annis, I also would like us to sign Ledley but only with decent wages as I am not sure how much he would feature with our current midfield. :thumbright: :bluebird:

Annis, I heard the exact same. I was told we've offered him pretty much half of what he was earning at Palace and told him to take it or leave it. Tried a loan player but clubs want massive loan fees so would work out cheaper to get Ledley

I've been back and forth about Joe. But knowing the quality we've got to start games in our current line up, I think Joe can only strengthen that. He'd be a great player to close games out and his experience will bring a lot to the squad. Not a starter for me right now but I'd be happy about this one I think.

But being a free agent, the club are not restricted to the 11pm deadline.

So, this could go on after the transfer window closes.

Hi Deano, Think NW was interested weeks ago but looks like he has played a blinder here as JL wage demands seems to have dropped from then, good if true and got a descent player for less money.

We've always offered the same wages for him, he tried elsewhere and has failed so we're back in touch :thumbright:

Will he be happy on the bench, coz he won't get in our team at present?

Don't think he would walk straight into our midfield at the moment but he will only make the squad stronger!

99% of players wouldn't come to the club knowing they won't get into the first XI. Especially at 30. He will firmly believe he is good enough and will work hard to be there :thumbright:

Have to agree with you on that, seems we are second choice and for a wage packet rather than want to rejoin.

I would rather ledley in the squad than Halford ,think Halford needs to be loaned out personally as don't think he's fully recovered from his injury

For me signing Ledley is not good business cant see many clubs fighting over him,he will only last 20 mins, and dont forget when he left leaving our club in the shit,he left for more money whereif he stayed we could have made money,
Jordan Mutch would be good,we made great money in him and getting him back would be great...
