A good move all round. He can play regular games in an inferior league and hopefully stand out to increase his price tag. Not sure if he would get in ahead of Lee Wallace at left back, but they've lost Barry McKay so maybe they will play him on the left wing?

Just found out Rangers are paying Declans Johns wages in full.

Warnock will save £180,000 in wages this season with Declan gone.

Now the big ones.

Probably a good move for him. Isn't he out of contract at the end of the season so that's it for him now.

Declan John made his league debut on 17 August 2013 in a 2–0 loss at West Ham United, Cardiff's first game in the Premier League. He signed a long-term contract until 2018 in December.[4] He went on to make 20 appearances that season, appearing more frequently in the second half of the campaign, as the Bluebirds were relegated.[5]

Under new manager, Russell Slade, John fell down the pecking order and was subsequently loaned out to Barnsley for the remained of the season.[5] He made nine appearances for the Tykes before returning to Cardiff at the end of the season.

After only making a single appearance for Cardiff during the 2015–16 season, John signed for League One side Chesterfield on a month-loan deal in February,[6] where he impressed in 6 appearances before being recalled by Cardiff on 14 April.[7][8]

Upon his return to Cardiff, John impressed new manager, Paul Trollope, during pre-season and went on to make his first league start for the club in over a year, where he put in a man of the match performance in a goalless draw against Birmingham City on the opening day of the season.[9] Despite an impressive start to the season, John became a bit-part player under Neil Warnock and was told he could leave the club at the end of the season.[10]

So Declan was on about a fraction over £3 grand a week no where near the £5 grand a week that was continuously stated on here
I wonder how many more inflated wage quotes of our players has been miss informing us on here
Hmmmm

think it works both ways..people have educated guesses on what players are on as they are not published.
what we do know is the club runs at a loss and the wage bill in the yearly accounts is huge

From what I know the 5k base is about right Most of the under 23s we got rid over we're on just over 1k so for Declan to be on only 3k is unlikely Must remember at the time a number of clubs were very interested in him and city really rated him

I will stand by Declans Wage, £5,000 a week basic.

I would stand by you on that Remember many clubs showed interest in him when he signed the contract and a lot was expected of him. I know the development players the same age as Declan were on 1k a week so 5k is about right Unless someone was bragging about Declan's wage the figure is correct

The club is spending a hell of a lot on wages Annis. Last accounts (May 2016) it was £30.2m plus £3.3m (social security payments probably NI) making a total of £33.5m. We had 55 players on the books but at least half of those would be youth/U18/U23 players.

If you take away £7mpa to cover the academy, management and coaching staff that would leave an average wage of £1.1m per player in a squad of 23 first teamers. £1.1m is equal to £21kpw

So even on £5kpa Declan John would have been one of the lower paid players. Either way the figures posted on here could hardly be labelled 'inflated' as there is hard documentary proof to show they are not.

38 weeks at £5k is £190,000.

Give or take a week on the duration of the loan until the end of the season.

The player is probably costing the club at least £5k per week when you consider basic wage, Statutory deductions, Insurance, medical fees ,and expenses. - even more perhaps when you consider his contract was improved when we were in the Premier League.

Teams like Barnsley and Chesterfield just couldn't afford his full package, which to me suggests he was probably costing the club more than what I've quoted.

A good move allround, and Rangers are a great club to play for.

Re: ITS OFFICIAL " DECLAN JOHN SIGNS '

Thu Aug 31, 2017 8:06 pm

Following yesterday's speculation about a loan deal for Cardiff City defender Declan John, Rangers announced him earlier this afternoon.

The 22 year old Welsh international boasts Premier League and Championship experience from his time at Cardiff and the left back has joined the club on a season long loan.

Interestingly he's in the final year of his deal at Cardiff and he'll be a free agent next summer, so Rangers' move is undoubtedly with an eye to the future here.

Speaking to the Official Site as he was unveiled as our tenth signing of the summer, John explained he had no hesitation in getting the deal over the line once he knew of our interest in him.

'This is such a massive club, and as soon as I heard Rangers were in for me, it was a 'yes` straight away. Football is crazy, especially around the last few days of the transfer window, but, as I said, as soon as I heard Rangers were in it was a 'yes` straight away. It has been a bit of a mad few days. I got the phone call on Tuesday night, had to fly up on the Wednesday and finally got it all sorted today.'

Having taken in Ibrox this morning ahead of the final touches being added to the deal, he went on to say.

'It`s amazing. I`ve never seen a stadium which looks so compact and it`s just brilliant. When you`re getting 50,000 people and the stadium is a sellout, you can only be happy with that. It`s going to be an amazing time for me and I`m sure I will enjoy it.'

Having tasted Premier League football aged only 18, he's sure he can adjust to life at Rangers quickly and he's looking to kick on.
