This is what I find hard to get my head around. We only averaged 4or5 thousand at home in the 80s/90s. But on many occasions our away support was immense.even places like Darlington we would take good numbers .

Bubble trips ruined a good day out..the football special was always good fun
Remember that day - the old North and South Bank were still there, also remember getting coined on the left hand side there by Wolves a couple of years later for a night game.. huge odd shaped stand like the one that replaced it.

couple of things spring to mind...A} these old photos are always of lads days out. away days were something completely different then to what they are now. and..B} im sure like me you know plenty of boys that would travel that rarely went to NP unless it was Chelsea, or Millwall etc..

I was there that day.
However we weren't Crap, Wolves were top and we were 2nd and both sides were heading for promotion.
It was a big game.

And yes we won 4-1.
Went back there a few years later when we were struggling in the 3rd division and there was Barry 600 of us- on one half of the South Bank.
Probably about 6000 Wolves fans in the other half.

Went to both those games, that stand behind the goal seemed huge and packed the wolves fans in right next to us made for a good atmosphere. I'd only just started following us back then, one if the first things I noticed was that our away support was good and many just seemed to follow us away.....

As you well know, people went for different reasons back then. Great days though, pretty sure I ran a coach full of beauties from the Upper Rhondda that day, very few of them go anymore.

They did i agree, but they also supported City no matter what the result and many of these same lads still follow City

Paul the Mullet got two that day..checked him out, he's still got it. Coaching in the states now, as is Bill Irwin.
Gilligan goal machine grabbed the other two. He's now first team coach at Forest.
Nearly thirty years..
Shit.
