International Break: Good or Bad?

Tue Aug 29, 2017 11:31 am

The general feeling is that the international break for teams in top form are a huge negative. Potentially meaning that momentum is lost, team morale is effected and also the risk of losing a player to injury.

However, looking at our squad compared to others around us in the league table, this break could actually work in our favour.

I'm pretty sure we'll only have three outfield players getting international game time; Richards, Hoilett & Gunnarsson. When you consider our high tempo style of play this mini-break for the rest of the squad is a huge opportunity to rest, get over any knocks or niggles and re-charge the batteries.

As I said, compared to our league rivals with potentially half their first team away on duty, our squad will be feeling refreshed and raring to go come the 9th September at Fulham. :ayatollah:

there is two trains of thought on this

First
The season has only just begun and it breaks momentum...and it could end in injury

or two it allows a rest early on

personally i think its wrong timing momentum is building..and its unwanted distraction :bluescarf:

For Us Bad - But at the same time gives NW - Time to sort out the squad before transfer deadline day :bluescarf:

Being top might get players in to join the party and get rid of players not in his plans ;)

Not a particular fan of international football and it takes players away from their clubs, so overall bad but this year it works nicely for me as I'm away for one of the breaks an the two City games I miss are both away!

At least the settled City squad will be known by the time it all starts again! :thumbright: :ayatollah:

Good for us.

Our players have been running the opposition ragged for the full 90 minutes - they could not have kept this up.

This 2 week break will allow them to train and also look at any niggling injuries. I would rather be in our position than any other team.

Also if we can keep all our players it gives them longer to hone their skills and develop new ones.

With the window closing tomorrow any newcomers will be joining a team reveling in success and wanting to a part of it

Onwards and upwards - Bluebirds

i believe we have built great momentum and this break with players going to play for their countries could disrupt this, i really hope i am wrong. One positive is Warnock will ensure players are focussed when they get back.

Same for everyone really, and good point about us not having many internationals, Warnock can work with the majority of the squad, and keep them fit but not over tired.
