Good team performance today, thanks to the boys getting me out of trouble after a shaky first 15. Great support once again

Mistakes will happen, and it's easy to be pragmatic about it after a win but he was poor today

Smithy was excellent at the other end and Warnock said he was worthy of the Prem. He did not say what he thought about Etheridge. hmmm
Sat Aug 26, 2017 7:23 pm
Really thought smithies was pretty shaky especially the first half.
Etheridge does seem to have a mistake a game in him sadly.
Sat Aug 26, 2017 7:25 pm
Is Etheridge even proper first choice, or will that be Camp when he's fit?
For what it's worth, Etheridge can pull off some fine saves, but beyond that he's simply not a Championship no.1 for me. Can't kick the ball, which has been an issue every game this season, and can't come out comfortably from his line. Hell, the latter is why we conceded today in fact.
Sat Aug 26, 2017 7:34 pm
Terrible mistake he made today which will take time for everyone to gain confidence in him.
I recall Marshall suffered the same thing when he first arrived but he at least pulled off some cracking saves to make him worth sticking with. I'm not sure if the assurance is there for him yet and if I'm honest I am surprised Murphy is not before him. My real fear though is that I don't think Camp is as good as these 2.

No communication with bamba for the goal. Both thought the other was going for it. Neil should be screaming for it
Sat Aug 26, 2017 7:40 pm
one mistake......
He is brave and goes for it. He saved us later on on the game.
Also reminds me of Marshal

This ^^^
Really made up for it in the second half.
Silly goal to concede, and that's definitely break down in communication. If anything, they can work on this in training sessions during the international break. Thought he did well overall.....but needs time to settle in the squad and to deal with the expectations of a team looking for promotion. Its a big challenge for any keeper, especially for one, who's come from league 1.
Heaton and Marshall were no different when they first joined us.
Sat Aug 26, 2017 7:52 pm
Also he came for 2 crosses not long after his error and claimed them both confidently, so fair play to him for that plus scrambling that late QPR effort away.

Five games,
five wins,
ten goals scored,
only two conceded and
top of the Championship after
five fantastic team efforts from Cardiff City's team, which as a whole means I'll give the guy a break and accept that (and this is the good thing) the team are still gelling and partnerships will continue to grow stronger all over the park!
I have a lot more confidence in Etheridge and his overall decision-making than I did in other recent keepers and like 'Ilan bluebird' I liken him to David Marshall only with more determination to get off his line than the great man!
Good performance today from Neil Etheridge and all bodes well for the future. City are a team fighting for each other and as fans we should be doing the same rather than looking to crucify individual players at the first opportunity!
Sat Aug 26, 2017 8:07 pm
Ah come on guys, 2 goals in 5 games? I think you ar being a little harsh. Guy has been great. And he takes responsibility for mistakes. Not many players would do that.
Sat Aug 26, 2017 8:20 pm
I agree with Sven's comments. All players make an error, just normally when a keeper does it usually results in a goal. Remember folks once again we won and 3 more fantastic points.
Sat Aug 26, 2017 8:25 pm
Sorry but I'm not convinced by him atm, first 2-3 game he didn't have anything to do, but since we have started playing tougher opposition I see him parrying shots he should be catching (Wolves), and seems unsure whether to come for balls that are crossed into his box and the less said about his kicking the better. Really hope he proves me wrong as the season continues, but I'm not sure. my mate who's a Walsall supporter said the same thing about him, good shot stopper but can make the odd clanger and struggles with crosses and commanding his area.
Sat Aug 26, 2017 8:38 pm
People make mistakes the guys been fairly decent especially when you consider the crap we had in goal last season.
He can only get better with more games too.
2 goals conceded in 5 games and he's made a couple of stops and clearances too!!
And Smithies - his saves were good but had a lot to do with his CB closing down space from the forwards- his kicking was terrible - if that's a Prem keeper I'll stick with Amos! Lmao
Sat Aug 26, 2017 8:38 pm
He is progressing well and has made some brilliant saves during our 5 match winning run. Blotted his copy book with the miscommunication to give away the QPR goal but the boy will learn from the experience and I can see him developing into an excellent Championship keeper.
Sat Aug 26, 2017 9:13 pm
Having just seen highlights properly it was totally bambas fault? Goalie was long way away when ball came in, bamba had easy choice to go attack ball as he was in front of forward but he chose to try and hold off forward hoping goalie would come for ball ! But by time he got there bamba and forward were in ethringtons way, as for the call bamba did that when he should have dealt with ball himself.
Sat Aug 26, 2017 9:23 pm
Give the guy a break, he's been marvellous so far. Yes one mistake and it proved costly but it showed a lack of communication rather than a lack of ability and that can be worked on to get right. This team hasn't gelled yet by a long way and errors such as this will need time and attention to iron out. He could improve his distribution but how many goalies have we said the same about. He's saved a couple of goals on a few occasions. Thus far I don't think we have anything to criticize any of the team for and none of them need their confidence to dip.

he comes for lots of balls other keepers we have had wouldnt dream of coming for. and will make the odd mistake.
personally i think not coming being glued to your line in the hope someone else deals with it or you can muster a super save is also a mistake. this fella hasnt had many saves to make not only because our defence is good its because he isnt afraid to come and take things 8/10 yards off his line.
Sun Aug 27, 2017 2:51 am
I think he's been excellent, 2 goals conceded in 5 games and some very good saves, kicking isn't as bad as some are making out and was certainly better than Smithies when it come to kicking. Bamba scored with a header from a corner in the 6 yard box, surely the keeper should be getting atleast a fist to the ball?
Sun Aug 27, 2017 6:57 am
2 goals conceded top of the league and people still have something to moan about!
How about we get behind the players is the guy not allowed to make or does he have to keep a clean sheet every game?
Murphy should not be first choice based on the two cup games if your moaning about Etheridgd. Murphys kicking is dreadful.
You got to remember this guy is stepping up a level and was a very good keeper last season from what I have heard!
Sun Aug 27, 2017 7:07 am
You learn from your mistakes.
Encouragement , and as NW stated we stand together when we win and when mistakes are made we fail as a team.
The guys doing brilliantly.
Sun Aug 27, 2017 7:56 am
Cant believe all of you complaining about Etheridge and saying Smithies was excellent. Smithies was crap. Etheridge made 1 mistake during 90 minutes. Come on support all of our players. Marshall made many mistakes, would not come off his line and was poor on crosses and was not as good as people think, we let Heaton go who was a much better keeper which has been proven since.
Sun Aug 27, 2017 8:14 am
Don't be tough on him after one costly mistake. He's done really well, especially as Camp was signed as our first choice.
It'll be very interesting to see what happens when he gets fit.

Tony, he is progressing well and will certainly learn a lesson from the experience as he and the team grow a better understanding of each other
Sol caused the problem and yet he nearly got MotM from us (would have been my choice had it not been for that) so it just goes to show the pressure all goalkeepers are exposed to and for the smallest margins too!
Can you imagine this Forum's reaction had our keeper made the error that the otherwise excellent (shot-saving, if not kicking) Smithies had made for Junior Hoillett's goal?!
Sun Aug 27, 2017 11:13 am
Bad mistake for the first goal, should have let Sol clear it rather than call for it. Great save near the end of the match to stop 2-2, don't see what the big deal is, he's better than Amos and probably Murphy (who is solid but not pushing past that). If NW puts Camp in when fit it's because he's the better GK.
Sun Aug 27, 2017 11:37 am
Thought Sol was great in his response, didn't bollock NE, looked at him held his hands out then clapped him, encouraging the keeper!
