Cardiff 2-1 Portsmouth FTET: MORRISON MADNESS & CITY WIN

Wed Aug 09, 2017 2:25 pm

Last Night:
It was a battle for the ages, as the last time Cardiff City faced Portsmouth was back in 2008's FA CUP and it did not disapoint with tight battles through the midfield and end to end action as the teams faced off in Extra Time. There was going to be 1 team who would win and that was the Bluebirds who just had that quality to finish off the game at the end.

Also there are 2 Goals from last night to show you all, have a guess who from: https://youtu.be/Cdi1ScLDwvs

Thanks for the video mate.

So Pembroke Allan, looks like it wasn't quite a strait forward header option for Morrison... And if he didn't stick his foot out the striker was waiting for a tap in.

Ok header was Maybe to difficult to do but he did not know there was a player behind him but wouldn't have been a tap in as other city player next to him! Point is the ball was going only one place and that was in the goal from Morrison's foot. And my view of goal was based on what I saw last night and reviewing it just now still doesn't alter my opinion that he shouldn't have stuck leg out when it was 3ft in air

Delighted we won last night and that takes us nicely into Saturday's game with villa .to be honest thought we where poor first half but when we came out like a train second half and took the game to Pompey straight from the kick off as the above stated some good battles in midfield but my man of the match was our right sided player who tore down that side constantly using his power and speed and putting in some decent crosses really enjoyed the second half and extra time hoilett come just to finish them off decent performance delighted we are in the next round

I was there last night and Halford was beaten too easily and Morrison had to play the ball as he knew there was a Portsmouth player behind him

Yes he was beaten easily but by playing ball Morrison new he would score as there wasnt anywhere else for ball to go so why do it? if new player behind him he he would have known another city player was marking him? Anyway Morrison is unluckiest player in league ehen it comes to own goals :occasion5:

It's all down to positioning, Morrison casually jogged back and switched off, allowing their striker to get goal side of him, meaning he had to desperately stretch and could only divert the ball into his own net. A better centre back would have got in the correct position to easily deal with the cross.

Morrison does it time and time again, he switches off and loses his man. It's not good enough. Sheffield Wednesday are probably breathing a sigh of relief we were stupid enough to turn down 3 million for him.

That ball was a great ball from the Pompey lad and to use a fan actually comment on defending a situation is fantastic.. :banghead:

Morrison is a centre back and he was a sloppy last night on occasions but that own goal for me is not his fault.. he is the nearest there and he is trying to knock it out for a corner or just get it away even, it's unfortunate that he put it in his own net.. he was defending for the team and scored an own goal for it, it happens.. he isn't to know Manga is going defend that cross as he is behind him and I highly doubt he is gonna shout for Morro to f**king leave it.

We are forgetting Morrison took a few knocks last night and still continued to battle on.. showed character and showed why he's captain because he was limping all game after we made the fourth sub.

thats point i was making his positioning was all wrong the ball was only going one place once he put foot to it! and it happens time and time again #. :old:

Mate ever heard of Specsavers? You should try it, Manga is clearly marking him. :laughing5: :laughing5: :laughing5:

You clearly don't know football. In a situation like that where there is only one striker to mark, the first centre back nearest the ball (Morrison) should get himself in a position not to allow the ball to pass between himself and the goal. It's basic positional defending which you don't seem to understand.

So if manga was marking him which was my point why did Morrison stuck out a leg knowing he is centre of goal 6yds out and ball was only going one place (In the net) if he made contact? :o

I stopped reading this after the first line - "It was a battle for the ages, as the last time Cardiff City faced Portsmouth was back in 2008's FA CUP"

This was the 5th time we have played Portsmouth since then. Played them 4 times in the league since...

Its clear who this seasons scape goat is already! Tonteg, as a center back you have to follow the line of the crosser or you'll play player online, Morrison was doing this and managed to get block in, unfortunately it was a freak mistake. He was 100% in the right to stick his foot out.

Alan you don't look like you've ever played center back you haven't quite got the frame lol

To me I think people are being a bit harsh on Morrison. If he didn't stick his leg out the player along side of him might have got a toe on it. It looks like he was just instinctively trying to knock it out for a corner to me. Maybe he could have done better before that but he is only human.
