CARDIFF BOSS WARNOCK ISSUES MESSAGE ON STRIKER’S FUTURE

Sunday 6th August 2017

As per the BBC, Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock expects prolific hitman Kenneth Zohore to remain with the Bluebirds through this summer’s transfer window.

Warnock saw his side open up their Championship campaign with a 1-0 away win against Burton Albion, before stating that he does not expect to lose his top scorer, who he claims is happy at the club.

Speaking about Zohore, Warnock said, “I hope [he] scores 10 goals before the end of the month, he still won’t go [to another club in the transfer window].”

When asked about the impending transfer window, with the money sloshing around the Championship, Warnock replied, “Why would I be counting the days until the deadline? Ken is happy here, in the dressing room after the game I asked him ‘has your agent texted you yet’ and he said ‘yeah’. We have a good laugh! I’ve told him, ‘if you don’t chase money, it will come to you. If you get 25 goals this year or whatever, you wait and see what’s what.'”

Warnock also made reference to the increased options he has in reserve this season, after a summer of controlled investment at the Cardiff City Stadium, “All I know is that I couldn’t have asked for more from the team and the substitutes. We are going to need 18-20 players and isn’t it nice to have a bench who can change a game, who can win a game?

“Last year we had six subs sometimes and three or four of them kids, and we conceded so many late goals. It is good to (be able to) use the subs to have an influence. We have signed good players who want to prove things. We’ve spent just over £3 million on seven players, we are trying to get value for money.

“I tried to be positive with the changes because I wanted to try and win the game. And I thought the changes worked, we were a lot more positive afterwards. First half I think they troubled us but we were very good second half and we deserved it in the end,” he concluded.

The Verdict:

Warnock is the master of getting the most out of what he has, but he can get away with a workmanlike side when he has a goalscorer like Zohore in his ranks.

The frontman would grace any side in the second tier, as goalscorers never go out of fashion, so it will be music to the ears of the Cardiff fans that Warnock is so relaxed about the transfer window and the speculation around Zohore.

With Zohore up front, Warnock and Cardiff can ruffle a few feathers this season.

with the amount of money in the PL nowadays, you could easily get a team offer £15m+ if he has a very good season. he may even go in january to a team struggling in the PL or a team at the top of the championship looking to push for promotion.

if top teams want him, the best we can really hope to do is drive the price up. we are not a club that will call other teams bluff when it comes to selling our assets.

It depends on how we progress by Jan- IF we are around the top 6 he'll stay - if the top 6 is out of reach and he's producing then he'll go - simple- if we then miss out on promotion if he stays then he'll go in the summer.

What I might add is he will eventually feel under a lot of pressure as not only will he be striving to meet his own ambition- but he's also got the hopes of the fans, his team mates who equally have to perform and he'll be dragging up our side.

He could falter just at the pressure.

I do inside feel like he's the guy who can deliver this though and I have a feeling he's not massively motivated by money - it's more his football right now.
