OFF TOPIC: ATHLETE JUSTIN GATLIN (POLL)

Sun Aug 06, 2017 1:58 pm

TWICE BANNED Justin Gatlin took the World Athletics Championship Gold Medal last night from sprinting legend Usain Bolt. He was roundly jeered by large sections of the New Upton Park (Ooops! Sorry, I meant London Stadium) crowd with some pundits saying he deserved it but others saying it was more a reaction to their 'hero' Bolt's defeat.

Far too long to post in its entirety but well worth a read, if for no other reason than to show how 'influential' the media can be and how we can often see only what we WANT to see! :o

He served the punishment he was given,so of course he should have competed.

The problem isn't with the person, he served his punishment and is allowed to compete.

But the real problem is with the decision to not ban him for life, that should always happen going forward if it is clear drugs were taken for an advantage. Especially if it was the second time!

i had already voted banned after 2nd offence.
read the article and the 1st offence was clearly not cheating but having been through that..erm. youd think he would be super cautious. that rogue physio rubbing unknown stuff into his legs ?.nah..bit like vincent asking Annis to rub in his sun tan lotion then getting upset when he looks like a smurf the following day.

The first offence as others have said was clearly not cheating.

The second offence, guilty BUT he did the crime and served the time and deserves a second chance same as anyone in life.

If it wasn't for the Bolt (who finished 3rd anyway) love in I doubt many would bat an eyelid, I thought the crowd booing him were pathetic if I'm honest but that is just my humble opinion.

i get some of what you said mate, but somebody who has already been banned beforehand, regardless of the circumstances, is taking the piss or desperate to cheat. He must of known he would have a pull!! anyway most sports are drug fueled, where there is money, there is corruption of some kind. Love to know who over the years got away with it...

To be caught once is bad enough but to be caught twice Chris is unforgivable. He should be banned for life, he is a cheater and you can't have any respect for athletics when it is full of cheating drug cheats.

Steve, I'm with you on this. I voted Option 2 (banned for life after the second offence) and stick by that. I was just intrigued by the article which states that the first 'offence' was 'technical' rather than malicious. The second one is pure conjecture and in the absence of contrary proof of a 'set-up' he should not have been competing last weekend. That's not about Usain Bolt, as he wouldn't have won anyway (he was third in the race)

Hope all is good with you all, fella? Not at Burton? Are you at Wolves? :ayatollah:
