Neil Warnock's special message to Cardiff City fans after loud Bluebirds contingent make a difference

Neil Warnock paid special tribute to the Cardiff City fans whose role will be crucial, he says, to the Bluebirds' fate this season.

More than 1,700 Cardiff supporters were part of the 5,050 crowd at Burton Albion, watching Kenneth Zohore's late goal secure a vital opening day win.

And Warnock believes the supporters made a crucial intervention in keeping the players going until the final whistle.

"You could feel the optimism, the fans were fantastic and kept us at it, and we tried to be positive and win the game," said Warnock at the end of the game.

And as well as lauding the Bluebirds' influential second half substitutes, Warnock praised the Cardiff fans.

"We need to see our fans turn up like this every week as they can make the difference, packing the away ends out"

Zohore's 88th minute strike triggered bedlam in the Cardiff end as the season began with a dramatic victory.

Warnock added: "I felt at half time we had to do a bit more going forward. We said we would leave it halfway through the half, but I couldn't wait that long. I thought the changes worked, we were a lot more positive afterwards.

"I thought we were very, very good second-half. I keep on about the fans, but the noise they made kept us going. The lads mentioned it before the game, and again at half-time, and the volume at the end was unbelievable and I'm sure the journey home was great.

"We've signed some good players, we've had value for money (and) when you have fans like we have it can make the difference.

"As long as they can see you trying that's what matters. We could have lost 1-0 and I still think they would have clapped us off because they're with us now.

"We're in this for the long-haul. We're not going to win every game, we're going to have periods where we have three or four games and we won't win one and we will need each other. We're not at the top end spending money, we need that comradeship and togetherness and I think we have it."

Nice comments.

What I like also is we have a proper manager who recognises when things aren't working and need a change. Worked yesterday. Long may it continue. It's also nice having a strong bench, the guy is building a squad not a team (and on a budget). He knows his shit!

First time we've had someone in charge like that since Malky I'd say.

Or Eddie May even, I'd say. I think he knocks Malky into a cocked hat.

I agree with that.

But looking at the dross we've had lately... Malky was the last proper manager.
