Just back from the game

Sat Aug 05, 2017 5:14 pm

The double substitutions won it for us.

For the first half I felt Burton edged it because their midfield seem to be winning most of the 50/50s. Overall it was a half to be forgotten.

Start of 2nd half we took the initiative but really did nothing. Zohore was well off the pace and did not win one header. Then came the substitutions and it was only Cardiff who were going to win it. Mendez-L was my MOTD although he was only on for the last 25 minutes. With him dominating the right side Zohore started to pick up resulting in the winning goal.

It's only Burton some might say. They are favourites to go down. I felt they played out of their skins and them being my local club I felt sorry for them.....but not for long. Hopefully they will stay up but for us well definitely stay up but play off spot? Lets see what we are like against the bigger clubs before making judgement.

Poor poor performance but a win is a win

Quality goal by ZOHORE

Our promotion season started with a late winner against Huddersfield.
A pretty poor performance if I remember correctly.
All in all way to early to judge.
I'd be more worried if I was a boro fan, what was that pass!

Absolutely right, with Hudson scoring the winning goal (if I remember).
I wouldn't mind playing poorly every game, so long as we win it. That was Malky's trademark, wasn't it? :D :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

All that matters is an away W, the only team to win away today ! Bluebirds

Mendez-Laing looked quality when he came on.

Hope we go with a 4-2-3-1 against Villa, as we seemed to look far more threatening when we changed formation and went with wingers. hope we start with Mendez Laing vs Villa. Good Result anyway.

just got back too pretty much agree with everyone the game was nothing much to shout about but 3 points is what counts . as for burton i,m sure they'll beat a few bigger teams on there patch as they are a well organised outfit . great atmosphere in the game and before the game in the beech pub which felt like a party atmosphere and thanks to Vince for sorting a ticket out for me in the end . this mendez fella looks hell of a player too . think he will be a crowds favourite this season . well done city and fans :bluescarf: :ayatollah:

Just got back, terrific win  I actually enjoyed our performance overall and I'm not as critical as some. These are early doors and it will take time for players to reach peak form and understanding of one another.

I thought our defence was solid, Gunnar and Zohore were mightily impressive but the game really swung our way after the double substitutions. Both Mendez-Laing and Damour look like they can significantly improve the team. In the end I think it more likely that had the game continued, we would have scored another. A great day out and everything bodes well for the season :bluescarf:

That's the big difference this season we have got players on the bench that can and will change games...and Warnock is not afraid to go for it in the last 20 minutes.

Quietly confident for this season...big game next weekend, if we can turn Villa over the pressure will start to mount on Bruce after just 2 games

Good comments there, Ian and I largely agree. Second half came to life and 100% the subs made a massive difference. Yo could see City building and we might have had a goal a little earlier when Mendez-Laing shot wildly when Ward was unmarked ion the middle! :ayatollah:

I get the feeling this is the kind of game that last year was a 0-0

Yep even a game we could have slipped up in. Don't know why but last season it didn't feel liked we'd compete there was no squad mentality. This group already seen like they'll back each other till the end.

Its the morning after and I've had time to reflect.

Everyone has been going on about Warnock and how much faith we are putting in him. Well yesterday we are one step further in justifying that.

I recall a few seasons ago when he was at QPR and we had Dave Jones that under Jones when we went a goal down or played horrible in the first half we hardly ever turned a game around. We had a QPR fan on here then , Stan, who said when they played bad they had faith in Warnock to turn it around. We saw that yesterday.

Yes it was only Burton yesterday and yes you can only beat what is put in front of you. For me though you need to start somewhere and that was it yesterday. The next few games will be more telling about us but under Warnocks management I have a feeling our odds of going up could drop significantly soon.

First let me state the win over Burton was a good and solid start to the season but its a long season ahead,44 games plus cup matches long and there will be injuries, now I believe we have cover in defence and central midfield but I am concerned about options we have in attack,if heaven forbid Zahore got a long term injury who is going to step up to the plate and score the goals, I personally don't think Ward has the quality to score on a regular basis and although we have a solid hardworking midfield they will never contribute enough goals to make up the shortfall would be interested in other contributors opinions

You may remember Zahore couldn't buy a compliment this time last year and was often played when he should have been rested(even NW stated this). Its my view this was the exact reason why Ward was brought in and for that reason maybe we won't see the pair start together often but use Ward to spell Zahore as and when thus hopefully prevent injury through over playing.

45 games! That extra one will be where our midfield score three in a 5-0 rout which will seal our promotion. A season full of promise under the very best stewardship in the Championship

I thought it was a good away performance, looked very solid and turned the screw when needed to. Brilliant 3 points.
