Trouble broke out in the first half in the Hannover fans' section at Turf Moor.

Burnley, who launch their Premier League campaign away to champions Chelsea on 12 August, announced the game had been abandoned at half-time.

"Today's game has been abandoned on police advice. More to follow," the club said on social media.

Burnley had been leading 1-0 after a 41st-minute header from Ben Mee.

According to reports, seats were ripped up and thrown after visiting supporters surged towards the home end in the Cricket Field Stand.

The problem is foreign teams firms know they can come here kick off and at most be ferried back home with no charges, the old Bill won't even clip them, whereas any Burnley fight back will see custodial sentences.

It's a bit random and pathetic to kick off during a pre-season friendly. Not that it is ever acceptable but seems quite ridiculous to travel all the way to Burnley from Germany to start a ruck during pre-season.

The whole bunch of them shut up then and turned in to cowards without the police protection.

I believe that Ireland had a right to independence just like other countries did under the old British Empire.

I don't really have a problem with songs commemorating 1916 (although I don;t like them)

My problem is why do Celtic sing about it? What has it got to do with Celtic or football?

Yes, you could say the same about German bombers etc but that is more of a wind up and joke than anything else. 1916 is political and has no place in football. The fact that they sing these songs further demonstrates their hatred an contempt for the hand that feeds them.

I have always been proud of the fact that City supporters never really got involved with all the politics crap. Some other clubs are very different.

Indeed it does Jock. I am City first and foremost but I spent four happy years in Stirling and went to a fair few games. Always amazed me at the time 1989-1993 what shit crowds the Scottish footie team got compared to the old firm. yes the police asked for military back up as they were over stretched and felt they could no longer keep control. as would happen today and at any time between then and now the army were called upon to suport the police.
im not saying the strike was wrong , just that to blame the fella who made a decision that whoever was in office would have made is a bit unfair.
