A Super Computer has predicted exactly where Cardiff City will finish in the Championship this season
By Ian Mitchelmore
Thursday 3rd August 2017
A Super Computer has predicted the Championship table for the 2017-18 season... and it's not good news as far as Cardiff City are concerned.
The Bluebirds have been heavily active in the summer transfer window, with Neil Warnock signing no fewer than seven players ahead of his side's league opener against Burton at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday.
Some bookies have already written off Cardiff's hopes of gaining promotion into the promised land of the Premier League this season while journalists from their 23 Championship rivals also believe the Bluebirds will miss out on a place in the top six .
And TalkSport's Super Computer - which uses a wide range of data to determine the final table - has also predicted the Bluebirds will miss out on promotion, by some distance too.
Their table has Cardiff finishing in 14th place, behind the likes of Wolves, Birmingham and Nottingham Forest, who all finished below the Bluebirds last season.
It has Garry Monk's Middlesbrough down to win the league title, with big-spending Wolves also set to gain automatic promotion into England's top flight.
Aston Villa, Fulham, Norwich and Sheffield Wednesday are the teams the gadget has predicted to make up the play-off places, with Leeds, Brentford, Reading and Hull among those expected to secure top 10 finishes.
It has newly-promoted Millwall down to be relegated along with Nigel Clough's Burton and Cardiff's Severnside rivals Bristol City, who the gadget predicts will finish at the bottom of the pile.
So while we suspect Neil Warnock (and most probably the Cardiff faithful) won't be bothered in the slightest that a computer is tipping them for a bottom half finish, the Yorkshireman will certainly relish proving all of his doubters wrong by enjoying a memorable campaign in the Welsh capital and leading the club into the Premier League next year.
Super Computer's predicted 2017-18 Championship table
1 - Middlesbrough
2 - Wolves
3 - Aston Villa
4 - Fulham
5 - Norwich
6 - Sheffield Wednesday
7 - Leeds United
8 - Brentford
9 - Reading
10 - Hull
11 - Derby
12 - Nottingham Forest
13 - Birmingham
14 - Cardiff City
15 - Sheffield United
16 - Queens Park Rangers
17 - Sunderland
18 - Preston
19 - Barnsley
20 - Ipswich
21 - Bolton
22 - Millwall
23 - Burton
24 - Bristol City

Considering previous seasons where a lot of premiership teams struggle when relegated people obviously don't consider that in their predictions! What I don't get is people saying we will be worse off than last season when we were crap 1st 18 games plus fact I believe we have a better balance in squad this season.

Computer error or operator error

Wolves won't be in the mix, new manager, new players, no gel to it, no chance them being top 6, I think they struggle to make top 10.

Exactly. One thing that I think we're all in agreement of is we will finish higher than last season. Some think play offs. Some mid table. And we're the ones who know our club!
'Experts' all predicting us to be worse than last year! The lack of pressure suits me. Let's get off to a storming start.

Most neutral people with a bit of football knowledge would rightly place around 12 or so teams above us based on the strengths of the Championship squads at the present time.
I think with Warnock in charge and being a person who will not accept anything less than 100% effort, we can pull off a few surprises this season, and despite what the experts suggest, I still believe we can finish in the top ten. I know the play offs may be stretching it a bit, but if we can have some luck with injuries, refereeing decisions etc., we could get close.

Top 6
1. Boro
2. Villa
3. Fulham
4. Norwich
5. Sheff Wed
6. Cardiff

While I think these kind of things are nonsense I don't go along with the theory of projecting our form since Warnock arrived into a new season. Also I am not one to keep saying that the championship is getting stronger and stronger... I think there have been a few years recently where it really hasn't been as strong as pundits say. However, this season the league does look extremely competitive with some very good players coming into the league and some decent managers.
It's going to be very very tough for us to finish in the top 6 but i think we have a decent chance and a good start will be paramount to our success.

Totally agree, I don't think its stronger just teams have paid more for players so people assume the quality has gone up. Like you said its competitive. I think we are one of the clubs who will be in and around the playoffs but its going to be a tough season. If anyone thinks we are going to be impressively beating teams I don't think so.

What are people/ computer basing their predictions on? If it's last seasons results that's misleading as had two managers 1st one got 18 points from 18games! 2nd one is expert on the championship, he has had full pre season changed squad around so now much better balanced with more choice of the bench! Whilst may not get top 6 we certainly are more likely to be there around end season than are to be 15th

For me we will be anywhere between 9th and 15th as I can see the middle table finishers being very tight together.
The board have backed Warnock he says he was happy with the squad he has assembled although now he says he a little light in certain areas so either he has to work with the players on the fringes that he is so well regarded for and getting them into the team or he ships them out and gets a couple of more in.
The Warnock factor will get us extra points but I don't see us being anymore more the mid table. I think people from day one have set their expectations to high.
I hope I am proved wrong but if not at least the club is moving forward in the right direction now is the time to put the past in the past and move on

The computer said no
Thu Aug 03, 2017 1:45 pm
It's certaining 100% correct on last place.
Thu Aug 03, 2017 1:54 pm
This is exactly the kind of a start Neil Warnock will relish, experts/pundits/computers all writing us off.he'll bring in a real battling mentality to the squad using it all. Total them against us .
Thu Aug 03, 2017 2:27 pm
It's a hell of a long, arduous season and for me we are way too light in numbers and back up.
Hopefully this will be resolved before the window shuts but I think we need more quality in midfield.
9th - 14th for me.

We all know how wrong these "super computers" can be in predicting. Just look at the last two general elections. That also applies to opinion polls and expert analysis.
If we get a good start we can stay in the top third and hope Vinnie backs us in the next transfer window.

Super computer and Talk sport - load of cobblers! If computers could correctly predict sporting outcomes, bookies would go out of business! Lol

mmm computer says no..... but come the end of the season we will see. Best of luck to the Bluebirds and confident we can do well.
Thu Aug 03, 2017 5:22 pm
Lets be honest we don't know I would hope we do better than last season and challenge for the play offs but there are big spenders this year and I fancy Wolves to be up there in the mix they battered us last season up their place and we were difficult to beat then so have to see.
Just want to get off to a good start and I would take a draw at Burton then beat villa and sheff united

I WILL BE AMAZED IF 5 OF THESE TEAMS END UP AS POSTED ABOVE -
THIS THREAD IS COMING BACK UP END OF SEASON - IF NOT BEFORE

Adrian Durham has just been through his predictions for the season.
League 2. Coventry.
League 1. Blackburn.
Championship. Villa.
However only other team he mentioned in champ was us. Top 6 he thought. Dark horses.
About to have a phone in about the championship. Waiting for the Weeds fans to think they'll walk it.

trolls got 8 points from 11 games Allan..
then Warnock got 10 pts in 7 which was a vast improvement to get to 18pts from 18 games.

Ahhh right I was watching sky sports programme on the championship and it showed 18pts from 18 games forgot trolls went in middle of it ::
But it shows such things are not considered in predictions like change of manager? It seems a lot to with teams reputation more likely
