Burton fans commiserate after massive blow!

The Joy!

Absolutely fantastic signing. A player with 23 goals in the SPL, beating the likes of Dembele & all the other Celtic players. Suspect we got him for a good price too!

I hope that this means Jackson is slightly more likely to stay, and if not, it's nice he put in a good word for us to Boyce.

Well done to all the staff involved in getting this over the line, great coop getting him and im scratching my head to why hes been overlooked by the bigger boys, his goal record speaks for itself. He's hungry to prove himself in England which is another added plus. On the Ross county forum they are quoting 750k.

And Gary Crosby a rare sighting at a new player intro, Cloughie must be away lining up some more for us.

Welcome Liam.

Excellent bit of business!

Someone on the Ross County forum is suggesting £750k. The rationale being that the £500k release fee included a 30% sell on fee. He/she believes by bidding that amount we have reduced the sell on clause.

Interesting stuff.

Surprised we would pay more to reduce a sell on fee as that really is looking ahead and we aren't the wealthiest club to do that

But who knows?

Great signing. He's a target man who scores goals. On video and in that image (despite Crosby being small) he looks a lot taller than 6ft that wiki describe him as???

His goals last season

Like I say looks bigger than 6ft to me

Wevome Liam!

More likely he's in Cala Millie getting some sun on his back or in America watching some baseball

He's earned it after pulling this one off. Get Buxton over the line and it really will have been another dream summer. We'd have options all over the place.

Good to see BIng looking so well. He'll have played a massive role in the Boyce scouting.

A massive signing for our football club. I do hope he can settle and do well for us. Anyway welcome Liam to this great but small club.

An asture signing. Little to lose. But if he has a 20 goal season we'll get a few million.

Quite exciting... We know we competed last year, and we tended to lose when we lacked depth...

We now have an improved squad... Hopefully no bad news on the way!

What a thrilling signing, the leading scorer in the Scottish Premiership coming to little old Burton Albion, with 48 goals in 99 SPL appearances he comes with an impressive record too.
And how times have changed for Nigel Clough, if it is £750,000 or even a mere half a million,19 years ago it was Dale Anderson from Hednesford Town on a free transfer!! A true measure of what is a meteoritic rise through the leagues and if this doesn't put bums on seats I don't know what will!!

Some interesting comments on the Staggies forum - people feeling he is a steal at anything less than £1 million.

He played in Northern Ireland's recent games and did well, although some fans did feel he still didn't look that fit. Sometimes he can look like that due to lack of pace. Maybe that's what Clough see's in him, a forward with bags of skill, knows where the goal is but lacks that yard of pace. Remind you of anyone?

Dembele - all be it younger - is being touted at £30m... so I would have to agree.

When was the last time we signed someone who scored 20+ goals in a season, from a decent league? I suspect this is the first time...

It will be interesting to see how Liam fares in the championship. I'm from Northern Ireland and follow the national team and the local leagues. He has bags of ability but lacks pace and has struggled with weight in the past. He was head and shoulders above anyone else in Irish League but that's not saying too much as the standard isn't great these days (probably equivalent to 6/7 tiers in England). Others who left Irish League in recent years have nearly all failed to make it in England, Boyce and Stuart Dallas being the only success.

I grew up watching Nigel play. Yep no pace. But very clever brain. And loads of bottle.

Nigel will make Boyce a better player IMO. He will make him work hard and will give him confidence.

Training at St George's Park - will help the lad too. We seem to be able to get people fit!

Your remind you of anyone question. I didn't pick up on the NC reference at all. Was going to say Chris Martin

I prefer your comparison but don't think we'd be unhappy at all all if he turned out to be Nigel's new Chrissy Martin and not quite as good as Nigel's new Nigel Clough.

Hopefully you'll be posting a lot next season as young Liam notches game after game

The Commiseration!

On the radio at tea time that the gaffer is positive he'll get a striker in before the end of the window, just not for Saturday.
How many times in the past has there been surprises though..Maybe 2.. A woody return would be lovely.

That is a huge blow for him and for us. As broomo has mentioned not on what he was likely to bring to the team, but also that the investment we made him must be a significant portion of our transfer and wages budget for the season. It will not be easy to find a replacement at all.

Gutted for the lad and gutted for us.

A chance for Marcus to step up.

I just fear the step will be too big. Banging them in at tier 7 is a great, but it doesn't mean you can do it at tier 2.

Friggin ell. Big big blow. Over to you Nige and co to go and get us another gem from somewhere!

That is bad news for all concerned, NC needs to work his magic again and somehow find a good cheap striker

easier said than done.
Give young Marcus 90 mins tonight and see how he fares, he may be ok, he may be out of his depth but either way we have nothing to lose.

At least he's on a 3 year contract so he's got plenty of time to make a full recovery and show us why Nigel saw fit to make him our record signing. As Ian says, gutted for him and us.

Either Dinanga in at the deep end or a loan now. We won't buy anyone because I'm sure price tags on players will suddenly increase when they see a club struggling to get a striker in turn up. Maybe we'll end up revisiting the Fryatt situation. I had a bit of a dig last night and he hasn't surfaced anywhere yet. Who knows.

Would have thought Varney is the first alternative

I thought it would be cruciate with the way it was described

The good news on that is that if it's not complicated I expect him to be back by January latest myself

It's a common injury now

Another flurry of points January onwards I wonder...?

Really big blow,

Could be good for Dinanga though, if he steps up and does well we will be looking good.

Young lads always bring a bit of pizazz to a team. Sbarra and Dinanga could be the saviours... who knows?

Gutting - to be honest, given our squad size to lose any of our players to such an injury would be a huge blow but when it's the record signing 7 days before the season starts it's even worse.

The only positive (I am clutching at straws a little) is that it has happened now and not 1 day after the transfer window closed - there is still time to sign a replacement and we have a few loan spots to play with. And at least Liam isn't a player who relies on his pace - wishing him a speedy recovery

What a massive blow to our season before it starts.

We will get around this blow, we always do. Stick Marcus in I say (well I did yesterday too) nothing to lose and a good deal to gain if he proves himself. I'm sure he's had plenty of knocks and bruises playing at Matlock, he can do it at Championship level, ruffle a few feathers me thinks.
We always rely on goals from other areas of the pitch anyway so what's new, everyone will chip in and help, we are Burton.

My only fear is you could see all the Burton players raise their game after this. I feel sorry for them losing their record signing before the start of the season but we have to go there and get the three points!
