Cardiff City have today confirmed their squad numbers for the 2017/18 season and there are some interesting selections.

Lee Tomlin has been given the number seven shirt made famous at Cardiff City by Peter Whittingham who left the club after more than a decade during the summer.

The Bluebirds’ new number seven has a lot to live up to after joining for a fee nearing £3 million from Severnside rivals Bristol City.

Elsehwere, Lee Camp has been given the number one shirt despite being ruled out of the first month through injury.

Danny Ward has been given the number nine shirt instead of Frederic Gounongbe who occupied that number last season.

The striker has scarcely been seen in the last 12 months and he hasn’t even been given a squad number for the upcoming season.

As expected, Kenneth Zohore takes the responsibility of being the Bluebirds’ new number 10, and Kadeem Harris moves into number 11 – perhaps a clue as to just how highly Neil Warnock rates the winger.
Harris takes the number from the long-serving Craig Noone who has been handed the number 21 due to being for sale this summer.

Neil Warnock is hoping to offload Noone by the end of the month, holding the belief that he needs a fresh challenge.

Of the other new signings, Callum Paterson takes number 18, Mendez-Laing will be wearing 19, Etheridge will be number 25 and and Loic Damour is the new number 20.

Cardiff City fans will get their first chance to see the new new numbers when their team travels to Burton Albion on Saturday afternoon for the opening game of the season.

Fred Guonongbe has re-appeared today amongst the first team profiles on the club website - shirt number 26.

Make of that what you will!

He hasn't appeared in any training videos during the summer and hasn't been involved in any friendlies - either first team or u23s.
