Is Cardiff City's transfer activity REALLY finished?

Neil Warnock insists he's happy with his squad with the season fast-approaching

A month is a very long time in football.

So, despite the claims of Neil Warnock, might Cardiff City have one last delve into the transfer market before September comes?

The Bluebirds boss has been consistent in his recent interviews , adamant that he doesn't need anymore players but always with the caveat that "you never know in football".

And with departures expected — Craig Noone and Declan John will leave if sufficient offers are received — Warnock may still acquire one more player to boost the Bluebirds' promotion aspirations should he see fit. The window doesn't close for another month, at 11pm on August 31.

The list of players brought to Cardiff City Stadium this summer is extensive and impressive: Neil Etheridge, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Lee Camp, Callum Paterson, Danny Ward, Loic Damour and Lee Tomlin.

But does Warnock have one more piece of transfer business up his sleeve? These are the positions Cardiff might target...

Central midfield

It is the one area in which Cardiff still look a little thin. Sure, Loic Damour has arrived and impressed in pre-season, but with a player like Joe Ledley still a free agent, might Warnock be tempted to bolster his options?

The Bluebirds have lost Peter Whittingham and Emyr Huws in this department (and Tom Adeyemi who went to Ipswich Town after the expiry of his contract). So if Warnock feels more cover is needed, he might make a move, especially if Aron Gunnarsson or Joe Ralls pick up injuries.

Winger

It might sound ridiculous to suggest Cardiff need another wide player with several on their books at present. But only Kadeem Harris, Junior Hoilett and Mendez-Laing appear to be first-team contenders, with the versatile Ward an option on the left flank too.

That leaves Noone, Matty Kennedy and Anthony Pilkington as possible departures before August. If all three were to depart, the Bluebirds might want wide cover.

And after the (unsuccessful) pursuit of Jonny Hayes, it's clear that Warnock wants to shake up his options on the flanks if possible. A young, hungry winger on low wages might supplement the Bluebirds' squad very nicely.

Striker

Another position in which, on the face of things, Cardiff seem well stocked. They've bought Ward and Tomlin to support Kenneth Zohore , but with Idriss Saadi and Rickie Lambert gone, what happens if — god forbid — Zohore gets injured?

Do Cardiff have a genuine Number 9 who can replace the great Dane? Neither Ward, nor Tomlin are comfortable leading the line.

And if Frederic Gounongbe leaves the club in the next few weeks, Warnock might just pursue another striking option, finances permitted.

So much can happen in a month. The Championship season will be five games old before the window slams shut, so Cardiff fans shouldn't rule anything out.

It's still pretty obvious that we still need a central midfielder and a genuine out and out striker.

Okeefe, Declan, Nooney and Fred are not going to get a look in so it makes sense for them all to move on.

If Pilks can show the form of 18 months ago and if Kennedy can force his way into contention add 2 more quality signings and we really are in business.

Got a feeling Warnock is going to pull one more rabbit out of the hat before deadline day :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I was talking to someone earlier today, who claims a friend of his - working as an estate agent - has been told by Craig Noone to sell his house ASAP.

If true, it's hardly unexpected news according to recent media coverage and another high earner off the wage bill.

They can't be serious can they? we already have one for gods sake and this article just listed him as a 'possible departure', Matty Kennedy.

For what reason is he a 'possible departure', not once has Warnock said or even given us the idea that he wants rid of Kennedy, he hasn't left him out of pre-season or made him play with the U23's. Yes he sent him on loan in Jan but thats because he knew that Matty needed to be playing full games and not 10/15 minutes here and there, he probably also wanted to see how well he could under the pressure of challenging for promotion with Plymouth, Matty needed to perform for them to help them over the line and he duly did that.

I for one want to see Matt Kennedy do well for us this year and actually get some game time after, in my opinion, getting unfairly thrown out of the squad by Slade, he's been overlooked and I genuinely believe that he could be a gem for us.

Agreed - I have a sneaky suspicion this could be a breakthrough season for young Matty... :thumbright:

Whilst Kennedy only came on for 20 minutes against Livingstone he appeared almost defiant in the quality he showed - particularly his set piece delivery.
