Nel Warnock: "City still a bit thin"

Sun Jul 30, 2017 8:57 am

Neil Warnock feels his Cardiff City squad is still somewhat light.

Neil Warnock:"We are a little thin in some areas"

Neil Warnock: "I thought we were a little bit thin again on the bench against Livingston."

"When Gunnarsson went down, we didn't have options on the bench really other than Greg Halford who was playing right-back at the time."

"We're just a little bit short on cover in that area so we'll have to look into that."

The Bluebirds struggled with injuries at times last season, forcing Warnock into naming fewer than the usual contingent of seven substitutes on the bench on more than one occasion.

It was something he was eager to address, and the Yorkshireman wasted no time in bolstering his squad, adding no fewer than seven players to his ranks ahead of the 2017-18 campaign, but still Warnock feels he is a bit thin.

I think Warnock will try & shift Noone & John and get two more in. He's hinted at that yesterday but probably towards the end of the window.

Norms if Warnock could get rid of Noone alone that would save him £100,000 a month.

If Pilks/Noone and John went then Warnock would have saved approx £250,000 a month and really help him :thumbright:

Joe Ledley still without a club.

No brainer really if he wants cover for centre mid.

Thats a lot of money saved there. I think Pilks will stay as he's featured quite a bit lately whilst the other two are with the 23's.

Norms, a very lot,I think your right about Pilks and to be fair, yes he's way over paid, but he does do a decent job for us :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

I thought Pilks looked keen to get into the game and showed a couple of nice touches during his cameo appearance on Friday. He's hit or miss but a half decent player on his day and when not injured.

I don't know if Warnock is a gambler but I wonder if it's crossing his mind that eventually Ledley will get a club so would it be a good idea to sign him ASAP in the expectation that No-one, Pilkington and John will eventually be shipped out nearer the transfer deadline, even if that involves loans. If so he would probably need Tan's support but he could be persuaded it's a fairly safe gamble. If so that would be terrific.

And the fact that apparently JL has had a few offers but turned them down. I wonder if NW has asked him to wait a while.

Sun Jul 30, 2017 10:04 am

Definitely take ledley he's better than what we got apart from Gunnar

Re: Nel Warnock: "City still a bit thin"

Sun Jul 30, 2017 10:19 am

That 25k a week off Noone could be spent on a good CM. Ledley would probably take that. And there wouldn't be a transfer fee! Not many better CM available on frees really.

Re: Nel Warnock: "City still a bit thin"

He'd be a more than useful acquisition but I'm still not sure that he can chase and has the engine that Ralls has.

Andrew, you may have hit on something there but I would ask why Joe Ledley hasn't been asked to train with us "as a favour to keep him fit" as has happened with other players elsewhere in the past? That would be a very surreptitious way of finding out his fitness and worth to the team/squad prior to any 'approach'

My personal view on Ledley (preferably not) returning to City is well documented but I am surprised he hasn't been fixed up somewhere else to date. He's certainly not 'finished' as a player who can still influence a game at a certain level

For me, it means he is either being a little misguided in his current worth outside of the Premier League or there just might be 'something' in a return to Cardiff City FC once some of the current monetary deadwood has been shifted :ayatollah:

I think there is a perfectly good reason why Ledley has not found a club, and if he is better than what we have at present I think I will downgrade my prediction of a top ten finish to somewhere around 15th.

Might not be struggling so much if we'd signed players who weren't injured and never going to be available at the start of the season.

Good points, Chris.
I know he's a different type of player but if available at the right price I'd prefer Charlie Adam.
There's a big 'if' there mind.

Warnock as done some really good business so far, if he can offload a few players there will definitely be a few more additions.

Really looking forward to season, Warnock as given everyone new hope and reunited everyone's passion

Its all mind games at the moment by Neil Warnock.
By saying "we are still a bit thin in a couple of places"
He probably would like one or two more in, but his hands are tied until he shifts some players out.
So he's hinting to Tan to gamble and get the players in , rather than wait to shift the others out.
As far as Joe Ledley is concerned is he worth more than £10k of our budget ? Most of the players we have brought in are on less I assume.
I still think O'Keefe could do a job for us, but there is too much history(allegedly) between him and NW.
Damour,Ralls,O'Keefe,Gunnarsson,Halford and Bamba are all,or can play DM .
We will just have to wait and see , what happens.

Knowing NW loan deals have already been agreed with other clubs dependant on the 4-5 going out.

There's no rush at the moment as imo clubs will get desperate at the end of August and will buy players for silly prices come whatever.

NW won't be left hanging around that's why these loan deals are already in place.
